4r70w/4r75w
Well I found someone that knew how to tell which trans is which. As far as the Machs go its a crap shoot you could have either one. Heres how he told me to check to see which one I have. With the car jacked up or on a rack look above the gear selector on the trans. The 4r75w has a sensor right above it and another one about 6-8 inches behind it. The 4r70w only has the rear sensor, the one above the gear selctor will just have a plug in the hole. Thats how I was told to tell the difference between the two trannys. My car has the 4r70w, but I know a few others on the board have been told that they had the 4r75w by their tranny guys. So you could have either one . Hope this helps other as it has helped me.

Re: 4r70w/4r75w
I belive that I read somewhere that the 4r75w could handle more torque.

Re: 4r70w/4r75w
I read somewhere that the 4r70w can handle 700 lb/ft of torque whereas the 4r75w can handle 750 lb/ft of torque. someone tell me if im wrong...
edit: saw it in a tech article on Modular Fords "4 is the number of forward gears. R is Rear drive, 70 or 75 is the torque capacity of the trans without the zero (700-750 ft lb on the input shaft) W is for Wide ratio."

Re: 4r70w/4r75w
I was told that both trannys can be built to handle the same amount of power in the end.

Re: 4r70w/4r75w
That torque firgure is not rear wheel torque...it's at the tranny.
Don't try 700 rwtorque in a stock tranny...smoke them clutches hard. |

Re: 4r70w/4r75w
Wouldn't the trans code on the door tell you?
(assuming they still put it there) Oasis should also.
