Drop in filter question

I just replaced my stock air filter with a drop in k&n. I was wondering if I still needed the heat shield, or if I can just dispose of it? Thanks.

Re: Drop in filter question

Stock unit is in an inclosed canister is it not! I have not had the stock on for a few years but do not think it had a heat shield! I know it had the rubber boot which lead into the fender!
Are you still running the stock unit? Maybe I am not sure what the heat shield is! (opps)

Re: Drop in filter question

You may be talking about the Air horn. If so, Put everything back in place. This will also protect the filter from the outside elements. You will still get plenty of air flow.

Okay, Then you're talking about the metal shield that just covers over the filter I guess. I would use it to protect the K&N filter from being damged then.
