Starting to get locked out of gears :(
I did the clutch , tob, etc. about 7000 miles ago and everything was going fine until I heard my tob starting to whistle again. Shortly after that it started to rattle and now my clutch pedal is vibrating very hard, usually on deceleration. So I'm assuming it's just because the tob has crapped out on me. Then yesterday I was sitting at a stop light and I tried throwing it into first gear and it started locking me out, tried throwing it into second...locking me out. Eventually I got it into first. Sometimes it locks me out, other times it will slide right into gear. It will always eventually get into gear it just takes a couple tries. So at this point I'm assuming the worst...my 3650 is on the way out/ syncros need to be reworked/ replaced? But could this just be a result of the tob? Doesn't seem likely to me but just thought I'd ask; this has all started happening in the last 1000 miles or so. Also, once the car is moving it never locks me out of any gears, only seems to be when I'm stopped it wants to lock me out of gears, but not every time I'm stopped.

Do you have an firewall adjuster? Possibly too much slack in the cable.
Also did you fill the tranny with the correct amount and correct type of fluid? There is a TSB with the updated fluid capacity. |

With the tomb eating it self you are going to get more and more free play until the clutch won't disengage

Re: Starting to get locked out of gears :(
you are correct! ...but since he recently put a new one and clutch its more like the cable needs adjuster after the clutch got broken in.
Obviously he could have gotten a bad TOB or could have a bad clutch fork or pivot ball. Could be as simple as the quadrant not being lined up correctly ... |

ford racing tob & pilot bearing? I hope you didn't use the junk bearings that were sent with the clutch kit. There's a sticky thread on gear lock outs & seems like the quadrant & firewall adjuster is what resolved this issue.
