Intake Spacer prob

I just installed the PHP intake spacer and when I went to start it up the engine shakes and smoke comes out of the exhaust and it doesn't run right, it sounds like air is coming out from some where in the engine, could it be the EGR? I didn’t get any check engine lights and I recheck ever thing that I disconnected and made sure it was connected. Any thoughts?

Re: Intake Spacer prob

Maybe you didn't torque the bolts to spec and there's a leak?? Aside from that maybe the EGR valve is cracked but I really dunno.. have you check to see where the noise is coming from?

Re: Intake Spacer prob

I just had my brother listen when I started the car up and its coming from the passenger side, near the back. Maybe the intake isnt sitting wright, but it looks ok to me, I am going to just take it apart again.

If it's coming from over there then it's probally you either need to tighten the bolts down more or check the gaskets and make sure they aren't cracked. I hope you figure it out I know it's scary when you start up the car for the first time after doing stuff to it and it doesn't work right.

I set my accelerator cable wrong when I installed my spacer so when I started her up she was at WOT and i almost shat myself

Re: Intake Spacer prob

This happend to me but my problem ended up being that i forgot to connect one of the hoses right next to the throttle body. Make sure you check all your hoses (you might not see if the first few times, looks good!)

But it still might be a install problem, is the sound very loud?

Re: Intake Spacer prob

There's a vacuum hose that goes below the upper intake on the passenger side, and heads toward the RF inner fender apron.
It's 3/8" diameter and plugs right into the intake manifold.
It's direct Manifold vacum, and if it's off, it will do what you describe.
I really think this is the issue at hand.

Re: Intake Spacer prob

Philly, you didn't mention if you replaced your EGR gasket. Sometimes when reused or damaged during install, a leak may occur at the EGR. Check all vac lines before disassembly. The fix may be as simple as reconnecting a vac line. Also, ensure all bolts are torqued in sequence to specs. Good luck.

Re: Intake Spacer prob

I am going to check to see if I missed any vac lines, if that don’t work I will go get a new EGR gasket, maybe a new intake gasket and then redo everything. The bolts should have been torque correctly because I used a torque wrench with inch-lbs.

Re: Intake Spacer prob

Hey guys thanks for all the help, birdman941 hit it right on the head, I missed the hose because it was pushed down and looked connected. I didn't get to reconnect it yet; I was in school all day. Now I am going to install the JLT intake.
