Exclamation Removing trans with kooks longtubes.

I was wondering if anyone has removed there trans with kooks longtubes installed without loosning them. my clutch finally decided to die on me and was wondering if there was a special way to position the trans or if it just dropped out... thanks in advance.

Re: Removing trans with kooks longtubes.

I'm wondering the same thing, at 57K on the stock clutch, I have a feeling mine is going quick!! I'm running Kooks longtubes too...

Stupid 3650.... why couldnt they have put the bolts that connect it to the bellhousing on the OUTSIDE so you could seperate the two and make it easier to take out????

Re: Removing trans with kooks longtubes.

If I'm not mistaken you need to remove 1 header (either side)to get the room needed to get the trans out, one of the few drawbacks for long tube headers.

Mid-length headers don't need to be removed for clutch swaps.
T-56 6-speeds have the bellhousing seperate from the trans.

KOOKS do NOT need to be removed to get the trans out........

This is what I've heard in the past.... but standing under my car on the lift I dont see how its possible to get a trans stand under there and move the transmission around without f-ing up the headers...

I know what he's saying, I had to pull the Merge collectors off my mid-lengths, twist it a certain way and still had to use some persuasion to get my 3650 out...I guess it's just me?

It wont drop straight down, I can see that much... the bellhousing is wider than the two closest pipes, so I'm going to have to hold that **** trans with my shoulder, and twist it around until I can fumble that POS out?? Jesus, sounds like I'm going to have a fun Saturday ahead of me haha...

Nah my buddy has a lift in his garage with a transmission stand and the all important set of air tools. Shouldn't be too bad.

A bunch of extensions and a swivel, go in from the front of your K-member, just be patient, it's a real prick.

You talkin bout the one on top of the starter? I used many extensions and went through the front of the k-member to get to it.

Re: Removing trans with kooks longtubes.

Just takes a little patience with the starter bolds and a good set of long extensions and either a universal joint or my preferred method is with a wobble extension. They are cake after you do them a few times. Get well acquainted with them now as I'm sure you'll be taking them out again for one reason or another.

If you have to get a new swivel buy a Kobalt one from Lowes. I put a breaker bar on my Kobalt swivel and it has held up to much abuse. Good luck.

Re: Removing trans with kooks longtubes.

I've done it in my driveway, I had to rotate the trans for the starter boss to clear the PS header, but it comes out pretty easily without loosening headers or even jacking up the engine.
