Just got orders to Hawaii

As the title says, we just received our orders to Hawaii. Should be a cool experience, we've been in San Diego for about 7 of my 11 years active, so a change is being welcomed. Any other Mach1's out there in Hawaii? If so, how do you like the driving conditions out there? Any tips for me before we head out there? I'll be bringing the Mach with me, so it should be nice cruising around the island. We should be reporting in mid-June sometime.

Re: Just got orders to Hawaii

Where in Hawaii? I spent 2 years at NAS Barbers Point and it was the low point in my military career. I still owe the Navy one for sending me there..

I've heard Kanehoe Bay is nice. With everything in the military, I've found its all in what you make of it.

Re: Just got orders to Hawaii

Thanks for the tips. I've already checked out the Hawaii mustang club site, I'll look into the further when I get there. I've heard nothing but good things about being out there, so we are definitely looking forward to it. I'll be at the NIOC doing IT related work, which I heard is near Schofeld (sp?) Barracks, towards the middle of the Oahu. Anyone have any experience with this part of the island?

Only way I could see SHORE DUTY at Barbers Point not being absolutly killer, is that you had no wheels to get around.
I was flying on C-130's while there and the military and the locals DID NOT get along. If that has changed that is great news!!!!

Schofield Barracks when i was there was surrounded by Pineapple fields and sugar cane......

Have fun!!!!

Re: Just got orders to Hawaii

Like swoop said, go to www.hawaiiperformancemustangs.com. Go to the forum and introduce yourself. Hope you like the beach. I grew up in San Diego and we love it here. Bought the house and all. Your options are limited, so I would recommend getting your stang work done before you get here. We dont have a race track anymore and the Superferry just bailed to the mainland, so we can't go to Maui and race anymore. When do you get here?

Re: Just got orders to Hawaii

"They", the "ricer" fans, are working on an Enduro track. Something like a 1/4 mile of dirt and street. There are tons of WRX and EVOs on the street, but no one gets theirs dirty. So no 1/4 mile strip, its the Enduro, then an all dirt track for bikes, then if all goes well, sometime in 2012, "They" will consider a 1/4 mile strip.
Superferry set sail for New Orleans or somewhere else on the Miss, so no more trips to Maui for the track!!!! We went to a HICN two weekends ago, what a turn out!!!! No club had more cars there than Hawaii Performance Mustangs!!! Like 22 of our Mustangs showed up and 15 of us showed up as a club. The majority of the cars there were strip performance type, talking no plates, roll bars, wheelie bars, and parachute types. And the enduro track comes first!!!!!!!!
