Shocks / Struts for comfort?

Just hit 70k miles. Definitely notice the ride comfort has deteriorated as I still am on the stock setup. Don't race the car anymore it is my daily driver.

Looking specifically towards ride comfort. I thought stock was fine when I bought the car. Just replaced all of my tires and am thinking Shocks and Struts are now needed to bring the car back to where it was when I bought it (35k miles).

Suggestions?

Bilsteins are my vote too...Roush uses them & the ride is wonderful! Never harsh Rebuiladble too

Unless you have to have adjustability, the B6 bilsteins (HD's) are the route to go.

I am all for the bilstein shocks as well. I purchased a set of roush shocks that are made by bilstein, improved the ride quality (9/10)!

Bilsteins are WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY too expensive for my taste. I have Koni STR.T's and my ride improved. They might be a little more sporty than the stock shocks/struts, but I have Eibach Sportlines, so it's hard to say.

The STR.T is no different than the stockers according to MM. Your ride likely improved because the stockers were shot.

That could be. I had a little over 50k on the stockers. Could OP buy some used Bilsteins off of a low mile Cobra?

Don't get me wrong. The bilsteins are nice. Have them on the lightning and f250, to me the blues are like a one up from the stock in stiffness but still ride good for the street.

The fronts would work but not the rears because they are valved to work with the IRS.

Not getting anything wrong. The Blues are a stock replacement shock. If they seem better it's because you replaced worn out stockers with new Blue stock replacements. Since shocks slowly degrade most people don't notice the loss of spring control until they are completely gone, so that even brand new stockers seem like an upgrade.

I have the Bilstein HD's with H&R race springs on my 04 and Koni STR.T's on her 06 with Eibachs. Switching from stockers to the Konis made a big difference. But I still think mine rides better than hers. I think the Konis are good for a budget set up, but I still prefer Bilstein. I ran them on my Expedition and they helped the ride on that as well.

Now ain't that something. When a car that is based off of a 1978 Fairmont chassis rides better than technology that is 27 years newer then that's saying something.

Besides the Bilsteins I LOVE the Koni YELLOW Sport Adjustables...they make them in Single adjustables & Double adjustables....I consider these equal to the Bilsteins & they are quality components, also rebuildable & Lifetime warrantied.

I think it's a couple things though. I know the IRS helps. The rear on mine doesn't bounce as much. But I also think the Eibachs suck. I think if I put a different spring on it would help a lot. But she loves the stance and won't let me change it. So I'm slowly working on her letting me bag it.

That I do not know. I know I looked it up at one time, but it was when we first got it as the springs came on the car.

If it's the Sportlines that could be the problem. They're too short and screw up the geometry and the shocks are already too compressed before anything happens.Also might be hitting the bumpstops if they weren't changed.

The bumpstops were changed out. But I still had to cut them down to gain some room.

Why do people say Eibach sucks? Mine seem fine to me. Is it the ride or what?

They seem soft for as low as the car sits. Even with the Konis the ride isn't as nice as I think it should be. To be honest her car was always my last choice of vehicle to take. Thankfully since she painted the calipers pink I have a permanent excuse not to drive it.

Don't want to hijack, but I have a similar question. My car rides really rough. Current combo has UPR (by Eibach) springs, UPR rear uppers and lowers, and stock Tokiko's all the way around. Not a fan of UPR myself, so I was thinking of going with Steeda springs and control arms and Bilsteins all the way around. Good combo or not? I drive this car daily, on some bad roads, and make an occasional pass at the dragstrip. Car will probably never see an autocross or an open track day, so I'd like to lean more toward comfort than ultimate handling, but a great stance is still a must.
