car alarm

parents think i should invest in a car alarm since i live in New Orleans and its such a safe place to live...

any recommendations on a good alarm for a decent price....

people around here always use Viper so thats really the only alarm im accustomed to seeing used...any other suggestions....no remote start...just a standard alarm to make my car a little less likely to get stolen

Re: car alarm

I am getting the viper 5902 installed this month or next month.

If you park your car with in the rage of the remote i would get a 2way system, so you know if someone is messing with your car. if not than you can save even more money and just go with a 1way system.

Re: car alarm

I have the Viper two way (model: 5701) with the remote start. My total out the door w/ install was $610 or something. Alot more expensive because of the remote start with the manual transmition bypass.

Theres a couple different levels of the Viper, and it gets more expensive with the LCD screens, Mine doesnt have the LCD screen because I thought they scratch and break to easily, mines just buttons. I got mine installed at CarToyz. in NJ. Just search around for reputable shops in ur area and call and ask for a price quote. They tried to jip me because I got quoted $560 on the phone, and then when i dropped it off, they said $710. And I verbally destroyed them and payed the $610 instead. They said I must have gotten a quote for a different security system, I called their ********.

Nice. Thanks for the info. How is the range on the 2 way remote? Website says 1500 ft so a little over a 1/4 mile.

Sorry for the later response. But yea its right around a 1/4mile. Sometimes depends on buildings around you and such.

Re: car alarm

for a good security system, stick with something made by DEI. viper, python, clifford, avital. they all work fantastic. i have the python 990 in my car (remote start alarm) w/ 1 mile range, and i love it. and questions feel free to ask

Re: car alarm

I need alarms for all three of our vehicles. Rather than carry 3x remotes, are there any alarm systems that would allow me to carry 1 remote for all three vehicles?
