Flood carpet

On Thursday we had a flash flood and my car was parked in the wrong area. Water came up to just above the door frame. Got water in the back seats and a little in the front. Insurance can't look at it till Tuesday. Thinking about removing and replacing the carpet myself. Should I try it or leave it for a shop? Is there anything else I might want to have cleaned or replace to get the muggy smell out of the car? Thanks.

Re: Flood carpet

Pull the carpet and seats ASAP
Even if it's just a little water, it will get the
Padding wet. You can't effectively dry jute
So you need to replace it. Biggest issue is
Making sure no ECU was wet...

Cool Re: Flood carpet

If water hits the dash its toast so dry everything out as best you can. If the ECU is dry your in good shape if not you may have some electrical problems.

Good luck!

Re: Flood carpet

There was only about a inch on the floor. Is there anything else to consider like water in the transmission or any other places under the car that water can get into?

Re: Flood carpet

Probably not.

Most service departments have a standardized flood sheet they work with. Your adjuster will work with the shop to figure out what is needed specific to the Mach...

Definitely, with an inch or so, any electrical connectors on the floor will need cleaning and treatment with at least dielectric grease.

Re: Flood carpet

Thank you. Didn't think about the dielectric grease.
