Solved it, the hose had managed to wedge itself between the A/C lines, almost closing the passage. with the hose disconnected I could not reproduce the rattlesnake sound, nor could I get it to do it with simply putting the hose back on. Once I tried folding the hose over a bit though, it did it right away.
