Re: Need Build Ideas
One of my mantras is all stock powdered guides must come out. New they are 003 clearance on the exhaust if you are lucky. Good bronze can take 0015 to 002 max. Anytime you replace guides it needs...

Re: disappointing dyno numbers
I also farm out someone else to make the bronze guides, make the SS valves to my spec, and make the springs. I would be a fool to think to make those myself, and every one of them has had a bigger...

Re: disappointing dyno numbers

Re: disappointing dyno numbers
Let me answer in the order received:
I currently have all the equipment except a floating head seat and guide and a CBN surfacer. Those combined cost $60K, will take up another bay of shop space...

Re: disappointing dyno numbers
So if you heard the porting was bad (obviously you have never seen it yourself first hand by your own statement) why did you place a $3K plus order?
All the detailed and close up pictures of my...

Re: disappointing dyno numbers
Serdi are a nightmare to get a good used one, Sunnen had stopped producing any parts for their seat and guide machine years ago so thats for sure a no go. You can learn the real truth on seat and...

Re: disappointing dyno numbers
Plus 1 - when the pistons are drop shipped from New Jersey and the crank is shipped from California thats a good indicator that the balance job was done with whatever spec was written on the outside...

Re: Wanting cams but maybe intake. Only customs?
I would agree that if you were careful you could do 0.1" of shim. However I have to plan on each person not having a clue what to look for when installing them so I stopped at 065 which is 100%...

Re: Wanting cams but maybe intake. Only customs?
Because to make a "bigger" duration and/or lift the only place we can remove material from a current lobe is the base circle. Removing material here makes the base circle smaller which lowers the...

Re: Wanting cams but maybe intake. Only customs?
We have a set of 220/222 425/425 on the way that will need a 065 shim from the math we did, I will know for sure next week when they arrive. Here is a picture of the lash adjuster in the head, you...

Re: Head fix?
Post some pics, I have honed them out to 003 clearance, more than that a set of bearings would be needed, there are a few places with the tools to do that, I am getting a set of these tools myself as...

Re: Wanting cams but maybe intake. Only customs?
I have never found a lash cap for these that fit under the stock rocker tip.
The regrind series I just designed one size has the lash adjuster compressed 040 which is fine if the lash adjusters...

Video of 4V exhaust seat moving in the head
Common problem with the 03 and newer 4V heads that are under a lot of boost. The seats get overheated and will loosen from the heads. You can click on the first link to see the gap between the seat...

Re: New Engine Build
I grind the centers to make a valley and tig 3 small spots, gears are pressed together on a junk crank and stay there until cool.

Re: New Engine Build
Sorry bro, it doesn't mean its right. When you get a motor in with a broken key and all the valves in the drivers head are bent and all the stock guides need replacing you will start welding them. ...

Re: Sean Hyland "Road Race" Cam Specs
Actually knowing Sean Hyland they are regrinds, and you have to lower the lift on a regrind if you don't want to shim the lash adjuster or run a longer valve past a certain duration point.

Re: piston question
Any good forged flattop is what you need.
I did the same thing to a friends Cobra motor that is on E85, made it much happier.
