Re: Mod Mafia Performance Built Naturally Aspirated Pump Gas 284CI 4V

Would be more than happy. BTW, this isn't a dedicated N/A setup. It's a nitrous motor with 400 gram pistons, big ring gaps, and no low tension oil rings in sight.

Re: toasted the motor

3/8" extension in the rear of the cam will work in a pinch

Re: MMR oil pump

Hit up Roy or Triangle Speed Shop for a set of their billet gears, TSS is in TX too.

Re: NA Big Bore Engine Build - Input Needed

Best bang for the buck; stock valves, stock followers, basic bowl blend, Brian Tooley Racing springs with stock retainers.

Re: What Engine Oil ??

For an off of the shelf 5W-30, it's hard to beat Pennzoil Ultra.

Re: Degrees of timing N/A

Correct, a fresh plug helps as well.

Re: Degrees of timing N/A

The best way to get the timing ballparked is to read the spark plugs.

Re: Comp 106100 Cams Recently installed and not satisfied!!!

Under the peak is where the biggest differences lie, and that's where the other variables make the largest impact. Some of it can probably be blamed on the cam timing, I'd guess your cams probably...

Re: Comp 106100 Cams Recently installed and not satisfied!!!

Agreed, those two power-bands look pretty much exactly like I would expect in relation to each other given the slight intake cam duration difference and the header differences.

My engine was...

Re: First startup after cams swap!

Boosted modulars love cam too though, besides, I've seen many, many LS cams with nubs for lobes (usually lifter failure) or even LS cams straight up broken in half. There's no reason to be afraid of...

Re: Comp 106100 Cams Recently installed and not satisfied!!!

Kooks/ARH run around 30", with the rear most primaries (3,4,7,8) being a bit shorter than the front primaries.

Not sure about about the mid-lengths, never bothered to measure a set.

Re: Comp 106100 Cams Recently installed and not satisfied!!!

The only mid-lengths worth a **** in my book are JBAs. Bassani mids have the worst collector I have seen on an aftermarket header.

Compare...

Re: Need some input about cams

Mihovetz spins billet cams over 10,000 rpm, 1badautogt has no issues with his billet cams at 9000. It's a non issue, sticking with oem cams poses too many profile limitations.

Re: First startup after cams swap!

Were these cams purchased new? No chance they were ever reground?

Re: Transmission choice strategy

A CVT, if it could be made to hold power, would annihilate any stepped trans assuming otherwise identical stats.

If you make peak power at 6200, a CVT can be programmed to reach that RPM...

Re: 98 cobra cams worth it?

Flowtechs don't seal at the head unless they've redesigned the flange, the 03/04 exhaust port is just too large.

They also tend to leak at the slip fits and have a crappy 3-bolt/gasket...
