You can keep your heads. The ticking is caused by excessive valve to guide clearance. A head rebuild and replacing the valve guides with bronze guides will take care of the problem.

This thread makes my head hurt. The tick was/is caused by excessive stem to guide clearance, end of story. The guides had too much clearence right from the start. This allowed the valves to hammer...

There is alot more to it than releasing the clutch. If you aren't revving it to 7000 or more your 1-2 shift may be before the 60' mark..Add to that a slow 1-2 shift ( Not powershifting) and 60' ft's...
