Backfire

Tonight while driving I came upon this older Cobra and the driver seemed to want to play a bit so I shift into third, punch it, then as I shift into 4th my car backfires. Never had that happen before and it didn't seem like a good thing. Now suddenly, either my mind is telling me the car has less power, or it really does. I open the hood when I get home and see if i can hear any exhaust leaks but I'm not sure that I hear any. The only sound I hear is a real faint ticking which sounds more like injectors than valves or an exhaust leak. Anyone had their car backfire yet? With my aftermarket exhaust it was definitely kinda loud.

id check the connections on the exhaust, ive heard of em blowin apart on systems that arent welded (this was on some lightnings i think)

on edit..the ticking like injectors..wonder if one is malfunctioning, dumping to much fuel and that caused the backfire? otherwise id say youre a candidate for the silent recall on the ticking heads.

hope it turns out to be nothing serious

i wouldn't worry about it. mine does it all the time when i downshift and my friends cobra does it also. we both have steeda x pipes with flowmaster cat backs. i think it sounds cool. But i havent noticed any power decrease. Hopefully its just in your head

It can happen somtimes on cars that have high-flow cats or no cats at all. I would not worry too much about it.
