Hey guys....just installed a new MGW shifter in my Mach & it works great , but requires much tighter deliberate shifts ....so tonight coming home I got lazy shifting from 2-3rd leaving a stop sign..& it slipped out of gear & experienced some minor grinding before I was able to push clutch back in.... ....low revs approx. 30 MPH ......seems to be ok , but hate to do that to my car since its like new with only 14,000 miles on it......I would think these transmissions can handle this kind of minor abuse ?

Messaged yah on svtp.
One thing you need to do is the old school secret sauce mix in these transmissions.
Mobil1 are and Lucas transmission treatment.
Makes them shift so much better.
Search the forums for it. Truly works .

Ok....still has factory fluid @ 14,000 miles & seems to shift fine , but I believe you & use & trust Lucas products.....my only concrern is that some say don't use synthetic in our 3650's......but can use regular Dextron ATF with some lucas tranny fix ?

Mobil 1 & Lucas.....thanx

From what I've seen recently, GM Synchromesh (Pennzoil Synchromesh without modifiers) yields even better results than the secret sauce. I'm trying that out as the weather improves and I can get out and drive more.

And when I bought the Mercon V that I like to use the parts guy at the Ford dealership volunteered that it (Mercon V) is repackaged GM Synchromesh...

Update....changed my fluid to Mobil 1 this week ..... 3 & 1/4 qts.....amazing results , like a different car ...MGW shifter is awesome !

So how is the effort required to shift compare to the stocker?

Honestly my stocker was fine, because my car has such low mileage on it.....I was just curious & had the extra $ 200 to try it out.... the MGW is a .quality product ....I went with the comfort handle which is about the same height as stock..just shorter quicker shifts .....but my car really liked & needed the new ATF

I think I might try a little of the ATF conditioner instead ?
my car only has 14,000 on it....so its in great condition & the mobil1 made a noticeable difference.....my old fluid was the factory original & needed changed

The 3650's are never in "great " condition.
Do a search on the secret sauce mix. Just saying it's worth it. Worked well on the old t45 in the 99 cobra as well.

Another low mileage mach 1 here. 14400 miles. I've never had a shifting problem. I'm using a steeda triax. I'll probably change the fluid soon because of the age though. What exact mobil 1 did you use?

Mobil 1 multi - vehicle synthetic ATF.....shifts pretty smooth.....might try some Lucas conditioner , but not sure it really needs it ?

Guess I'll be the first, and perhaps the last, to say I thought the special juice was not friendly to my trans. That lucas was too thick and took way too much time to get warm enough to thin out and let things slide in the trans. During colder months it was even worse. I dumped it and just used regular non synthetic atf and its the best it's ever been. Virtually no 1-2 grind when the trans is cold (i go slow on this shift until the trans gets some heat in it anyways so it doesn't grind at all). When it's warm it's perfect. I can shift in as fast as I need to. Been this way for 20k+ miles.

Sounds good.....I say Mobil 1 or Amsoil synthetic or like you said regular Mercon / dextron ATF....or even 50/50 mix might be the ticket

Shorter , quicker shifts.....

^That and shifter handle location adjustability as well. Also, when you find a gear, it has a more satisfying feel compared to stock.

ok let's try one more time. How does the effort required to make the shift compare to the stocker. Does it require more effort, force, muscle to execute the shift.

Aftermarket shifters have stiff springs, so more effort is required in side to side movements. The springs are what guides/centers you up to go into 3rd and 4th so they're less likely to be missed.

Yup, definitely more effort to go over to fifth. However, that doesn't make it harder to get in gears 1-4, wouldn't you agree?

IMO an aftermarket shifter does require a little more effort to get into gear. That's due to reduction in leverage by going to a shorter lever. However it's not so bad that you're not used to it the second or third time you drive car.

it shouldn't be as long as you aren't using one of those really short handles or running the handle at the lowest setting on the shifter itself. Any healthy adult should be able to handle a sts, I would think.
