Check with D&D Performance, you can get a Cobra-R T-56 with the lower 2.97 first gear vs. the vipers 2.66.

I was talking about the cobra T-56 with the viper 5th and 6th gear cluster (sorry for the confusion), which would give me a .50 vs. a .62 6th gear.

Still would be a dog off the line with less than 4.56's!

Doesn't Motive make the 4.30s for Ford? I found this in the FRPP catalog:

ring gears and pinions
www.fordracingparts.com 169
8.8" RING GEAR
AND PINION SETS
PART NUMBER RATIO AXLE
MUSTANG/RANGER/F-150
M-4209-F308* 3.08:1 8.8"
M-4209-F327* 3.27:1 8.8"
M-4209-G355A* 3.55:1 8.8"
M-4209-F373N* 3.73:1 ➁ 8.8"
M-4209-G410A* 4.10:1 8.8"
M-4209-G410M* 4.10:1 8.8"

M-4209-G456* 4.56:1 8.8"
M-4209-F308

NOTES:
➀ These ring and pinions have been developed to increase towing capability of 5.4L Expeditions.
➁ Replaces our popular M-4209-F373. New manufacturing technology utilizing a Face Hob Process which features a single-pass pinion tooth machining
operation compared to a conventional three-pass process for machining. CNC cut and lapped gear teeth. Higher strength and better quality gears are
produced with the Face Hob Process. NOTE: These new gears look a little different, the gear teeth are cut on a different angle and the ring gear has a
bevel on the back of the gear.

After putting 4.10's on your auto Mach I was just wondering how it shifts now? Does it shift at the same RPM as it used to or does it shift at the same speed? If it shifts at the same speed, it would really be winding out, right? I have an xcal2 so the speedo won't be an issue but I am conserned about the shifting.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Im curious as to what the top speed is in 4th gear w/ a 4.10, 4.30, and a 4.56 gear?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

I had 410's and by 124-125mph u will be shifting into 5th,i currently have 390's and for like 3 months had 373's,now i'm considering goin back to 410's i would do 430's but this is a street car, never been down the 1/4,not sure what top end would be in 4th.

No way, 4.30s for sure. I can't tell you how big of a difference the 430s made over the 355s. My car is only street driven really, I wouldn't put any other gear in unless I was going FI.

Just got the 4.10's installed and I love it. The car is definately a rocketship now.:)

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

I couldn't imagine 4.30's or 4.56's. That would be insane and 1st would be totally useless. And you'd basically have to drive around with drag radials all the time.

4:30s for racing. Maybe you can hit 5th or Overdrive at the end of the run. May not be that much differance to worry over.

Shifting into fifth on a run down the track :12: FYI, most people one this board could run 4.56s at the track and still have room to spare at the track on 315/35/17 tires while still in fourth.

4.30s for a DD street car with nitrous and a taller tire = a nasty combo.

4.10s are not enough...my only mistake on my car. These cars love more gear.

Did you ever get your 4.30s installed? If so, tell us about the differences you noticed!

Let us know what your rpm is when you cross the finish line in the 1/4 mile.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

I had my 4:30 gears installed yeserday and I'm really happy with them! Man they sure wake the car up! I also had some Nitto drags put on the car 315/35/17. As far as the street goes they hook up well on my car, I was impressed with them.

I have to update my programmer for the 4:30 gears, my speedometer was off by 10 MPH. I'm really glad I went with the 4:30 vrs the 4:10.

It's not a problem at all on the highway to do a road trip, infact I'm driving to Daytona this weekend, it's about 3 hours away. At 60MPH my RPM is 2,000.

I'm going to the track this Wed night to see what I'll run in the 1/4. Wish me luck! Ohhhh by the way I have a 5-spd in my Mach1 and I'm N/A.

let us know what the mpg is with the 4.30s

RedRocket 02-15-2010 08:18 AM

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

In town with the 3:55's my rpm was at 2,000 in 4th gear. With the 4:30's my rpm is at 1,800 in 5th gear around town. I am able to use 5th gear now around town, so i'm thinking i'll get a liitle more MPG in town. As far as the HWY MPG I'll post it when I get back from Daytona.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

Did you get axles and a new diff? curious about the MPG on the highway.

RedRocket 02-17-2010 10:28 AM

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

No...I didn't upgrade my axels. If I decide to run a better drag radial than my Nittos, then I will upgrade my axles to the 31 spline.

I have have a "grudge match" tonight at the drags, I'm running against a 2008 Mustang GT with no cats, x-pipe with Dynomax mufflers, SCT-3 tuner, undredrive pulley kit, BBK twin 62mm throttle body,C&L cold air with a 5-spd with 3:55's N/A. Hope I win.

My Mach is 2003 N/A with 4:30's, C&L cold air, SCT Xcaliber-2, Dyno tuned, no cats, x-pipe with Dynomax mufflers, Nitto drag radials, 5-spd with a short throw shifter. It should be a good match up, I know his car is pretty quick.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10

if drivers are pretty equal you should'nt have any problem at all. when you get a chance let us know what rpms @ 70mph with the 4.30's. good luck with the race, ac
