Longtube tune question
 

I'm about to have longtubes installed on my daily, I've read that you need a dyno tune after doing this. Do I need this directly after install? Or can I wait til my next paycheck ? It's my daily and I'll put miles on it, but I can hold out from getting on it all over town. Haha

Also, I bought these headers used from somebody on here. I seem to remember that you need gaskets and bolts for the longtube install. Can anyone confirm this?

There are a couple changes you'll need to make to the tune. The A/F should be checked and the transport delay for the O2's needs to be lengthened. Also the duty cycle will need to be raised. I did about 15% for both with my mid lengths.

Use stock gaskets and bolts if you can. I used the factory studs with my Bassanis. It was a pain tightening them, but they stayed tight.

I was wondering this too. I would have guessed a good email tune from a reputable tuner would work fine. Has anybody on here gotten an email tune once they got their longtubes?

I did an email tune with my old DSG mach. The tune was done by Eric Brooks at Brooks Speed. Car ran great. Went 13.1 with the stock converter. Ran his tune for prob 3 years before I sold that car.

Fwiw - I ran a jlt with no screen, intake spacer, ported lower, longtubes and o/r x for a while with the stock tune.

Good to know 311, how long did you run it like that? And just out of curiosity, what kind of mpgs did you get untuned like that? I ask because I too have a Jlt cai, no screen, ported upper and lower, ported throttle body, and full exhaust minus the soon to be longtubes and 4.10s and get maybe 18mpg on the highway...... :eyes:

Yeah. I thought so too. I'm gonna try and clean my iac and re-learn it to see if that helps. Been having a problem with it since I re-installed the stock TB.

am I making it up or do the auto cars turn higher rpm than the stick cars?

the IAC only matters when your foot is off the gas, it shouldnt be doing anything at highway speeds

Yeah. I think they spin higher also. I should of specified, I am experiencing off the pedal problem, this the iac comment. Sorry about that.

It ran great for months on the stock tune. I also had tr6 plugs in it. The first tank was terrible mpgs then the computer learned what to do and fuel mpg got much better. About 25 hwy. Mine is also a 5spd with 373s.

Ok. So can/should I reuse my current header gaskets or do I buy new oem ones?

How many miles on the car? They should be reusable if they aren't brittle or fall apart when taking off the stock manifolds. If you have to get new ones, get them from ford.

im using the felpro header gaskets, according to the engine builder theyre good gaskets and not too expensive. Personally I don't think it's worth the trouble to risk a leak from reusing the gaskets when you consider what a pain in the *** they are to swap

I have 92000 miles on the car, i think I'll just buy some new ones, I was asking in case it was common practice to reuse.
