Mecum (Dallas 2018)

I see that Mecum will be in Dallas Oct 3 - 6. I'm planning on going. I want to see if the cars look as good in person as they do on television.

Anyone else been to this kind of auction? What are some tips or something that I must do while there? Would Saturday be better than Friday?

Might just take $10K and see if I can get steal.

Mecum (Dallas 2018)

I haven’t been but I’ve seen some cars from both Barrett Jackson and Mecum. Friend of my father’s bought a car (70 Roadrunner 440-6 4 speed) from BJ and it was an absolute turd. Ran like crap but the paint and interior were in excellent shape. Then I’ve seen a couple cars from Mecum and they were some really sweet rides. Last local show I was at there was a car (65 Fury Sport 426 Max Wedge 4 speed) from Mecum and it looked like perfection in terms of restoration quality. I’m not really a big fan of that body style. Then one of my local farming juggernaut families bought a 57 Corvette with 8 or 9K original miles out of Mr. Mecum’s personal collection. That car was drop dead gorgeous.
Generally there’s one day that the real high end cars will come across the auction. Most of the time they will tell everyone when that is.
I’m not sure what you’ll see that’s worth buying for 10k if you’re looking for a car.

Pick your poison.

I'm going to try to attend Thursday afternoon, just to experience the atmosphere there. (Can't on Friday or Saturday)

Just browsing the schedule, it looks like the high-end stuff will be Saturday.

Some really nice cars are in the line-up, including two 1969 Boss 429s.

There is a 2004 Mach1 on Thursday's schedule:

That just has to be someone I follow on Instagram. The changes to it seem really familiar to me. I'm not really into owning yellow Mustangs, but I'd love to start over with a 25k to 35k Mach lol.

I got my credentials in the mail. It was real easy to register. I'm supposed to get a Mecum hat when I check in. I'll be there Saturday.

Wife and I have been to Mecum Monterey, it was great. The only bummer was talking to some of the owners, and finding out only their cars are Cool!

I was able to attend on Friday. I found the above Mach 1. It was marked $17K but did not make reserve (which was probably $20k). It was very nice with a couple of touches that I did not like but it was a very nice car. The paint was perfect.

Hard to believe that they had almost 1200 cars there (under one roof)! We looked for about 4 hours and could have spent 4 more. The cars were parked by day and in numerical order. It was easy to find a car that you wanted to see.

I got to meet and talk to "Ben". He's the hefty looking guy that always says SOLD SOLD SOLD when he gets a winning bid. It was funny to listen to him talk to the bidders thru the day.

I did not see any car that I would not want to own. They were all spotless. Better than I expected.

I agree with "Recon" in that overall you are bidding on a car soley by looks. They may be perfect in looks but you don't know if the mechanical matches the paint!

The "young girls" at the entrance couldn't tell you where anything was at and they weren't that good-looking anyway. :OUCH:

Sounds like a good time.

The tail-lights on that Mach 1 are for some kind of eclectic taste that I don't think many people have.

A double dose of work and family stuff didn't allow the time for me to go.
