Power gained per modification.

I wanted to start a thread that would provide everyone a place to document their gains made per modification they do to the car.

I was hoping that by doing this we can build a kind of database for mods so the average person looking to add something to the car can have a quick reference to see if the mod they want to add has helped anyone elses performance.

I realize all our cars are different, and the order which we do mods may have an effect on the numbers, but I thought this might be fun...

I have a goal of one day reaching numbers like Jesters. His rear wheel numbers have reached the factory flywheel rated numbers.

so, I will start.

Kn drop in filter, stock everything else.

270rwhp, 292 rwtq (12% driveline loss = 307fwhp and 331fwtq)

Flowmaster 2 chambers welded to factory pipes.

No change.

Re: Power gained per modification.

Bone Stock: 272rwhp 293rwtq (SAE)
SLP LM1, PHP Intake Spacer: 286rwhp, 307rwtq (STD)
SLP LM1, PHP Intake Spacer, MAC Catted Prochamber: 295rwhp 318rwtq (SAE)

Re: Power gained per modification.

okay.

for your first two mods you picked up a total of 14 rwhp and 14 rwtq.
Your second mod adding the catted pro-chamber added an additional 9 rwhp and an additional 11 rwtq.

a total of 23 rwhp over stock and 25 rwtq.

Nice, and thanks...

Re: Power gained per modification.

bone stock, 273/298
JLT cai + mac o/r prochamber + sct chip/tune: 297/315

at the time of the chip though, i had added 4.30 gears, 31 splines, and heavy deep dish bullitts. i'm sure it would have been closer to if not passed 300/320 with the stock rear/wheels.

Re: Power gained per modification.

JB.....I agree with you it's a nice idea, but it seems to me there are way too many variables and dyno difference to really make much sense of it all. As you know, there are temp and humidity differences I don't think are fully corrected for, some quote SAE and some standard, some know how to make big numbers with cold engines hot oil etc, and just the differences in dyno's themselves.

And as you mentioned, some mods affect other mods, so you can't just start adding up the numbers.

With my simple mods, and I've been on several dyno's with this car (and probably 50 hr's on previous car), all I feel confident to say is my car makes about 10% more HP and TQ than when stock, and pickup in middle ranges were greater than peak. I also think there is some advantage to 2 1/2" exhaust system all the way (with a tune) because Ford added that to the 05's.
I'm not sure CAI is worth anything on near stock car (you can get about same increase by leaning stock tune), and I've about decided K&N drop in, 2 1/2" exhaust, and good tune gaining some control over knock sensors gives about 90% of gain available for street car keeping perfect drivability. And we all know all the stuff you can do with intake spacers, headers, OR X's, cams, TB's etc. MHO

Re: Power gained per modification.

bone stock: 280rwhp/302rwtq
magnapacks + steeda cai: 282rwhp/305rwtq (no tune, running very lean, no MAF screen)
removed cai until proper tune
just magnapacks: 279rwhp/302rwtq (the diff in hp was a fraction, probably just the different weather conditions) running rich with 94 octane.

magnapacks + steeda cai + mrt h pipe + php intake spacer + ported/polished upper and lower intake + tune = 301rwhp/324rwtq

the ported/polished upper+lower intake = 11rwhp/1rwtq
this is based on another local who dyno'd 290rwhp/323rwtq with a very similar setup without the intake but with comparable #'s with the mods.

Re: Power gained per modification.

with just K&N aircharger, and welded in flows.

I put down 292hp and 319trq

Re: Power gained per modification.

Welded in Magnaflows, and welded in Hi-flo Cats = 286hp 302tq

Pro Turbo Street Kit @ 10 psi:

437 RWHP
496 RWTQ

Needs re-tuned because the 90 LMAF is pegged over 5000 rpm...new numbers coming soon.

JLT RIA, Bassani catted x and catback, 4.30's, custom sct tune =316 HP 328 Ft Lbs.
Don't know what it was stock though.

Re: Power gained per modification.

I actually dynoed after every mod

Bone stock 1100 miles:
260 HP 279TQ - sae

K&N aircharger ~ 2000miles:

262 HP 280 TQ - SAE

K&N Aircharger/SLP Loudmouths ~ 3200miles:

280 HP 289TQ - SAE

K&N Aircharger/SLP Loudmouths/Mac Prochamber ~ 12,000 miles:

297 HP 315 TQ

I've dynoed my car many times and found some things to work and somethings that did not work...

One of the things I wasted the most amount of money and dyno time on was a generic JET chip...here's the thread explaining just what happened...needless to say that Chip is now burried in a trash heap somewhere in VA :) http://www.mach1mustang.org/vbulleti...ead.php?t=2980

edit: car is a 2004 5-spd

Re: Power gained per modification.

Went to a dyno day the first time with several other Mach 1's. The others were making around 275 - 282 HP on that dyno.
Bone stock, mine made 260 +/- 1HP on 3 pulls. Very disappointing for a 5 speed.

Fast forward about a month to the next dyno day. Again, several other Machs there making about the same or a little more because of mods.
Mine was still bone stock with absolutely NO changes since last time.
Made 274 HP this time. Gained 14 HP!!! The difference? 4500 miles on the odo instead of 2500 miles. Things are looking better for this "weak" car.

Added 4.10 gears, K&N Aircharger, O/R XPipe and catback, a chip and professional tune by HPP and got to 302 HP.

Replaced the K&N with the JLT RAI and 95mm Pro-M maf (again tuned by HPP) and it made 308.76 HP and 325.79 ft-lbs of torque.

Yes, all numbers are SAE. :teeth:

Bbk Lt's
Bbk O/r H-pipe
Flow Master Cat-back
90 Mm Mass Air
Sct X-cal (tuned By Dynospeed Racing)
C&l Intake Tube
341hp 358tq

With Compucar 125 Shot
443hp 591tq
Sae Corrected :)

Re: Power gained per modification.

No stock baseline. I would imagine in the 240-250rwhp range. rwtq around 250-260?

12/22/05 - 8lb ATI P-1SC Supercharger (SCT Xcal2 tuned) @ 23,800 miles: 381/349 (Gain of ~130-140rwhp, ~80-100rwtq)

12/29/05 - Same as above + PHP Intake Spacer (Re-tune) @ 24,000 miles: 386/349 (Gain of ~5rwhp)

All numbers SAE Corrected.

Future (Hopefully) - 4.10 gears, 3500-3600 Stall Torque converter, Exhaust

Re: Power gained per modification.

Bone stock 272/298 SAE at 16,000 miles. With K&N aircharger-screen out, Mezeire electric water pump, ported lower intake, PHP intake spacer, Kooks longtubes, Kooks offroad Xpipe, Magnaflow catback, FRPP Aluminum flywheel, FRPP Aluminum driveshaft, FRPP 4.10's, FRPP 31 spline Traclok, Moser 31 spline axles and a diablosport revolution flip chip and tune. At 29,000 miles 327/339 SAE. I think that's about all we will get from bolt on's. However 1st, 2nd and part of 3rd is now useless without drag radials. I know that's not broken out per mod but that is where it wound up.

Re: Power gained per modification.

Well, I wasnt smart enough to get my stock nubers down prior to modding but here. The day that my car rolled through 1500 miles I changed oil over to RP racing 11 and dynoed.

C&L maf, intake, and inlet tube = 286rwhp/327rwtq +/-1 on two pulls

Since, I have added the Stingers and a preditor, which feel like a good 5hp 5tq couple of mods. If I had to guess, I would say 290/325 now.

In three days I will be returning home from this long a$$ deployment and install the pullies and get on a dyno for a tune. Needless to say I am excited to see what she brings to the table.

That was very common for most Machers when they got their car... they dynoed much lower in the first 2-4000 miles, but gained anywhere from 5-20 RWHP after putting on mileage

I think all of us here need to send JET an email saying basically the same thing that there chip does not work and see if we can't get a free Refund... Yeah I am dreaming but its worth a shot!! Good info for the rest of us sorry u had to suck up the cost and time and ********!!!!

I Dont Know What I Was Stock But I Know That On Motor I Have 315.rwhp With 347lbtq And On Nitrous I Made 431 Rwhp With A Misfrie At High Rpm And 431 Lbtq.

Thats With Basic Bolt Ons And A Wet 150 Shot

Re: Power gained per modification.

287 HP and 309 TQ with a SLP LM 2 catback and the air silencer removed. I also had 17x10.5 deep dish rims with 315's on it. Conditions were 74.75 degrees and the humidity was 32%. This was done at Excessive Motorsports in Manassas, VA.

Re: Power gained per modification.

My first trip to the dyno numbers 305hp and 324rwt with php spacer(the best mod asfar as driver feel goes), ngk plugs, bbk off road x, mac cat back. The best mod is the PHP spacer(less then $100 and 30 min of work).

I need someone's expert opinion.

I have never dynoed my car. I would like your best guess on where I stand on RWHP based on the few mods I have made.

Magnaflo catted X pipe
Magnaflo cat-back
K&N drop in.
Diablo Pedator

Thanks!

Kurt

No expert just guessing, high 280s to low 290s WHP.

Re: Power gained per modification.

It seems like cars with similar mods do have about the same results, so I feel a little better about my results.

I have only dyno'd mine before and after adding the x pipe. I did it when I lived in Houston at Houston Performance. It was about 100 degrees outside and pretty humid. I was a little dissapointed at the time because they had a problem with the dyno giving torque readings and I was expecting over 300rwhp. This is what they said the results were...
before Xpipe
271rwhp 279rwtq
after
296rwhp 302rwtq.... they were impressed with the increase and speculated that the spacer may have had something to do with the increase. It probably wasn't as effective with the stock hpipe.

I have been wanting to go do another pull. I don't think there is anywhere near Austin to do it though.
