What is old is new!
I don't know about you, but we have had our Mach since new for 15 years. In that time I have probably bought and tried about 8-10 shift knobs. At first they seemed like the knob I always wanted and felt great. Then after a while they just did not do it for me. Well now full circle I have put the original Billet shift knob that came with the car back in. I know the pitfalls, Hot, Cold but I forgot how perfect it feels. Can anyone else relate?

Re: What is old is new!
I can relate. I've got both of the nice MGW knobs and also the Ford Racing leather knob, but I've been running the stock one for the last year or so.

I like the stock knob also.

Re: What is old is new!
I like the stock shift knob, but I rarely use it. Too darn hot during those warmer and hotter months. I generally use a black “cue ball type” shift knob. It feels good (reminds me of my old 73 Mach 1) and is good to go in any temperature.

Re: What is old is new!
I bought one of the MGW shifter balls 12 or so years ago, and also bought an unusual blue shifter ball with "Mach 1" in the center of the shifter ball that I bought off an old member here that I never saw anywhere before. I stopped using them all when a co-worker had a custom shifter ball made for me that was clear on the outside with a Mach 1 medallion on the inside with mysti-chrome paint on the inside. The shifter ball is almost the size of a real cue ball that fits perfect in the palm of my hand. I gave all my other shifter balls away for free, including the stock shifter ball.
With the exception of my stock valve covers (which I still sold for dirt cheap), I've given all my stock parts away for free. |
Re: What is old is new!
i'm only on the fourth shift knob after 10 years of ownership.
the fully leather covered (SVO type) knob is my favorite for driving. been contemplating getting a Hurst t-handle |
Re: What is old is new!
I ran the MGW Mach1 gripper knob for a while, running a stock terminator one now with the 6spd
The stock one is safely tucked away |

I bought a custom painted ball in azure blue and love the look. The problem is similar to the stock ball, hot in the summer sun and cold in the winter. What I love about it is the extra weight. I would love to find a composite ball (or whatever is great with temperatures) that has a little extra weight and can be a custom, paint matching color.

Re: What is old is new!
Presently have the MGW Mach 1 Gripper handle. Really like it. Have the Stock one still. I go back and forth depending on my mood. I’m kinda like that with my IPhone cases as well. :teeth:

I believe MGW will still make those handles if you contact them. They just don’t list them on the website. They are really nice looking. IG: @ab_mach1 |

That sucks lol. The only reason I never bought one was because I have a cigarette lighter delete with Mach 1 on it and thought it would be a bit too much “Mach 1” so close together. IG: @ab_mach1 |

I got mine last summer They still have them Just don’t advertise it |
Re: What is old is new!
The stock knob looks awesome. Unfortunately, it doesn't work awesome. It gets cold as ice in the winter, it will burn your hand in the summer, and it gets slippery easily if your hands aren't clean.
For now though, I'm rocking it anyway because it's a special part of this model of the Mustang. |
