Re: Official Whipple/KB/Eaton HP/TQ/mods thread:

From the setup pic in Larry Warcup's post, it appears the KB 8psi system w/ intercooler eliminates the bottom of the scoop to make room for the supercharger housing and the intercooler coolant tank eliminates any possible duct from the scoop to the air filter.

Are there any options/kits (KB, Eaton, Whipple, etc) that keep the scoop functional? I want to keep the scoop functional since 1) air from completely outside the vehicle will be cooler than air from the fenderwell, and 2) for me at least, the functional shaker makes this car.

Thanks!

No, no options. Once you eliminate the lower half of the shaker there aren't any options. Getting cold air outside the engine compartment isn't always the answer. If I had run a CAI instead of my RAI I would have made 40 rwhp less more than likely.

Madmax305 07-16-2008 05:26 PM

Re: Official Whipple/KB/Eaton HP/TQ/mods thread:

What Scott said is true. I started with the JLT CAI. I switched to the RAI and removed the maf screen and gained 40 hp. The only function left for the shaker is that it will put cool out side air on top of the supercharger. I'm not sure how much of an effect this will really have on the supercharger....

Haven't dynoed yet, date is 12 September. Can you guys give me an estimate of what I should expect with the following?

03 Mach motor with 9 to 1 pistons
FR500 cams/springs/valves
ported heads
stock throttle body
60 pound injectors
Twin GT superpumps and modified FPDM
Midlength headers with offroad Prochamber
Whipple 140AX with 3.5 inch pulley (13psi boost)

What numbers would you think it will put down?

I would also like to see any follow up on blowing motors. IF anyone blows their motor and rebuild's I'd like to see that posted. Reason for blow would be best.

Marty, with 13 lbs. of boost I think you'll be disappointed. I'm going to guess 540 rwhp 490 rwtq. A 4lb. lower would do wonders for you. That Whipple wants to be spun a little more.

That doesn't sound bad.....my target was 500. What would the 4lb lower do for me and where can I get it?

Metco or lightningforce has the kit. Here is the kit. You want the adjustable one for $40.00 more. Helps with belt slip.
http://www.lightningforceperformance...bra-p-329.html
It will give you 50 more rwhp and more importantly 50 rwtq at the least with the 4 lbs more boost. You would still be able to run it on pump gas. If you don't have the idlers yet they have the kit plus idlers. You don't have to use a 4lb. kit. You can get it with the 2 lb. pulley ring. Later all you have to do is swap rings for the desired boost. If you get the 4lb. kit you need the alternator pulley that goes with it. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Night and day difference.

Just got back from Lidio's Ubly Dragstrip Day. The "bomb" ran great! Mid 70's and a nice sunny day. Managed some new bests with the Mach 1. Traction was great and I managed a nice 1.61 60', and ran a 11.21 at 121.1. Not to shabby. Goes to show Lidio does good work.

For those of you running these kinds of blowers over 500hp, do you guys drive your cars around on a regular basis or is the car mainly a track and weekend car? Just wondering if a car with close to 600hp or even over 600 can be driven everyday with no problems? Would it be a pain in the butt to keep that rear end on check? Any of you ever wish you would of gone with a procharger style blower or something else?

Awsome numbers by the way, a couple of years from now I hope to be putting up a list too.:)

Mine is a weekend only car. Sure it can be driven everyday. I still get low 20's for gas mileage when I dont get in it all the time. I had a Procharger before. Granted I only ran it on 11 lbs. of boost but my Whipple blows it away in every aspect. But I'm sure I'll get flamed for that.:12:

Re: Official Whipple/KB/Eaton HP/TQ/mods thread:

During the summer months I split up the daily driving between the Mach 1, Marauder, and my 06 Mustang GT. The Mach 1 had the Kenne Bell with 500 RWHP, the Marauder has an Eaton M-112 with 512 RWHP and they behave as if bone stock driving around town. You have to learn self control though! My one line I wouldnt cross when modding these cars was drivability. I didnt want a car that was finicky or tempermental for driving around town. Both get great gas mileage when you keep your foot out of the pedal like Scott said. I wouldnt change a thing.

With ported heads and cams maybe 650 rwhp. The 2.2 Kenne Bell runs out of steam quickly after you start going over 600 rwhp.
