Power Adder Choices

I just got my 2004 Mach 1 bone stock except for exhaust (that I can tell). I do not want to do a long list of smaller mods but I need more power to keep up with the locals here so wanted to just jump to a power adder. I originally wanted an Eaton swap because its from a fellow Cobra (which I always wanted) but finding a complete kit and someone who knows how to install it is difficult. So next is new (or slightly used) kits. I looked on KB site and their isn't one specifically for Mach 1 but could I use a kit for a 03 Cobra? I like the Procharger kit because they include the IC. Any negatives here? Lastly I looked at the turbo kits both ON 3 and Hellion. I like the ON 3 price but read mixed reviews on them. My local tuner doesn't like the kits so also considering the Hellion kit but it is expensive. Any feedback on these kits? |

I have a Hellion kit. The piping is good quality and fitment is great, but just be careful of poorly finished blow off valve and wastegate ports. Also plan on upgrading the blow off valve to something larger. I don't much care for the length of pipe required to reach the turbo. I'd prefer proper forward-facing headers that replace the stock manifolds.
If you'd honestly be happy with 450whp as you mentioned in another thread, then the Procharger would be a great choice. |

stock motor and staying stock motor for a while a procharger is probably the easiest way to get there. Biggest cons with the procharger are the MAF location (very turbulent, better to go slot style and put it in the engine bay) and belt alignment can be a pain in the ***. If you can find a used kit with a D1 head unit that will give you room to grow on a built motor later
any PD blower setup is going to require the base stuff of an eaton swap that you were complaining about (lower intake, intercooler, timing cover, alternator, heat exchanger etc...) |

Check out my build thread listed in my signature below. This will go through every detail of an On3 kit. I have had good luck with mine but I also modified a few things which is covered in the build log. Warning, there is a ton of reading there.
Hindsight, I would have spent the money on an HPP Twin Turbo kit, they are a complete kit and fitment is really good. All quality parts such as BOV, etc. |

Oh, I hate pro chargers only because of the belt alignment issues, but at 450 you should be fine. Wait... no, I still hate those **** things. Can you tell I have changed to many belts, haha.
To bad KB no longer have a kit. |

I still say eaton swap because of the power delivery and they are designed well. The full eaton swap route will give you the opportunity to use any of the big aftermarket blowers later if you wanted to get real crazy.
The KB kits are Mach 1 specific and limit you to that particular blower. Not that it's a bad blower, it's not. One of the members here has one and his Mach runs hard. KB stopped production on them years ago when they couldn't get any more cobra intake manifolds from Ford. Those kits don't show up for sale very often. If not, I'd wait for a procharger to show up in the classifieds here. They come along every now and then. Get the D1 with an 8 rib setup if you want to go into the 600's later on. 500rwhp and below a P1 will get it. |

I've had (9) Supercharged Lightnings & Mustangs and of course Roots or Twin Screw is the Best Choice. But built or not built, cast or steel, tuning, and final power, all play a part of what I decide to put on what. In your case the Procharger would do the job and be a pretty easy install. I've had Prochargers on a couple of my Mustangs and never had belt alignment issues so I dont know what thats about ? I also installed one of the system myself and I sourced used parts from 3 different people to complete the kit. Wasnt a bad install at all, just have to do a lot of research and know exactly what to do and why. The Eaton set up is a great set up but you do have a lot of stuff to install. The reason I had & have Procharger on 2 Stangs was because of Cast Cranks. All depends on your looking for. I f you want street beast 1/8th racing, then PD is the only way to go. If your looking for an all out 1/4 racer, then centrifugal or turbo is the way. Again, depends on what your looking for. If you can find a complete Kenne bell kit, or an Eaton swap thats the way I would go as long as they're fully complete kits. If you cant, a Pro Charger or Vortech intercooled kit will make things fun and fast.

Here you go. This dude is obviously running E85, or a built low compression block or both. All you would need is different injectors and some pulley swaps.

my first power adder was nitrous...but sick of filling bottles...SWITCHED to the procharger p1sc kit....easy to install...NEVER had a belt issue and never had a tuner issue...454rwhp....ran 11.50's on drag radials ALL day long!!!!!!!
GOT GREEDY and went all out and built a motor, upgraded everything...broke a ton of sh#t... (rear ends, transmissions, fuel systems...) went deep into the 9's...and still continue to break sh#t...lol... for an everyday driver....P1 is awesome!!!!!!!!!!! |

To clarify my belt issue with Pro Charger, we only had issues when pushing a D1 really hard, 800 RWHP. Never had an issue with a P1.

How are these for noise? I friend had a procharger on a 2006 3v. That thing was so f'n loud every time it came down the road I thought it was the farmer's John Deer across the street. The mechanical noise was unbearable. It sounded like they had multiple gear drive units on it. (Old timer reference there. lol) I don't know how anyone could put up with that racket on anything other than a track car.
