New build
2 Attachment(s)
Going new direction and decided to upgrade the power adder to a 88M turbo combo. This will be a max effort build with a few exceptions...still going to keep "some" creature comforts...ie interior MUST be kept...with NO hackery...lol
I will "occasionally" drive it on the street as I do like to hit a cruise once in a while and make a few weekend rides so that will be a must. I have since pulled the motor and drivetrain...sold the F1a and will be upgrading my rods as well. Current combo is a stroked 4.6 with Manley 5.85 rods with upgraded ARP bolts. I do plan on making north of 1000 HP so I have decided to upgrade the rods while I have the motor out. Few pics of progress... |
Re: New build
Wow that's a ton of power! Good luck on the build
|
Re: New build
Gonna be sick! Looking forward to watching the progress
|
Re: New build
Also looking forward to the build! Which turbo will you be using? Lots of choices for 1000whp.
|
Re: New build
Signing in on your build, this will be fun to watch.... we want pictures!

Re: New build
gotta say one thing though...having a BOLT in lower radiator support made pulling entire drivetrain SUPER SUPER easy....once I disconnected the main harness, exh and few wiring grounds..it was out in less than an hour. I dropped everything onto a dolly and wammo...out...easy!
FOR guys willing to go that route I HIGHLY recommend it.... |

Re: New build
Just making sure you know that'll make more like 1300whp. :-)
Twice I've had too big of a turbo and ended up going a step down. Trying to save you from buying two turbos. |

Re: New build
That's gonna look great
|
Re: New build
I have a TON of more work to do and I usually only get free time once or twice a week for a few hours at a time. SO THIS will take some time BUT it will be bad-a$$ once it is done.
|
Re: New build
I'm incredibly familiar with that schedule unfortunately
It also means any hiccups in incorrect/missing/broken parts can cause extremely long delays |

little more progress...so I finished my tack welds on right apron and lower frame rail cover. FOR all the non welders...this is actually a easy project IF you have the time and patience. Easy tack welds are simple quick bursts...then grind the high spots down.
Once everything was ground down I put a SMALL thin layer of fiber-smart filler. (fiberglass) over the spots and filled in voids. I let set up for about 10 minutes and then grabbed 80 grit and started knocking it down. THIS stuff turns HARD as a rock quickly and if you wait on it you will be sanding for days. I still have 3m filler to go over that and then fine glaze coat before priming entire thing. (long way to go for now) anyways...couple pics of progress...i will post more pics of the process I am using as i go along too. This may differ from others but I feel this will give the perfect smooth look I am going for. |

little more this morning..left side and filling in holes too....
HINT for novice welders...copper plate with magnets work great for filling larger holes. sit behind hole and weld shut. Mig weld wont stick to copper and makes sealing larger holes a breeze. |

Looking great

more welding of holes/ grinding flat then first coat of filler. I will need to spend the next hundred hours of my life sanding...lol
|
Re: New build
Looks good man! ive always wanted to do this, not quite sure why i havent yet lol. For the turbo guys it really cleans up the bay and completes the look.

another update...spent about 6 hours this weekend on passenger side smoothing out a lot of high spots and...I used 120 grit but will have to go to 320 the whole area before I use poly spray primer.
Will start on drivers side this week and started pulling dash and harness. |
Re: New build
nothing crazy...over 100 hours into engine bay smoothing already and still LONG way to go.
Finally got my Cloyes Primary timing adjusters (9-3169a)...waiting on accufab chains and tensioners to show... |
