The texture is a little rougher on mine but the color is right on...

Painted Interior Panels

1 Attachment(s)
I repainted my interior in October, 03.

I did not think the IUP was enough of a contrast so went with a Ford color, "Silver Charcoal". Brightened up the dull interior. My Ford Dealer General Manager took pictures to share with the Ford Rep.

Check out my entire gallery for all the interior shots.

I answered your original e-mail. Check it.

It would be nice if someone would sell the door inserts pre-painted in IUP.

The problem with the IUP color is that there isn't much of a contrast with the dark gray interior color. I thought my IUP Mach was almost as bland as my 03 coupe.

I don't know...I think our interior looks really good. It doesn't distract me while I am driving. It has been my experience that when the interior of the car your driving is colorful and in some cases loud with color, it tends to distract me, with the mach all I see is the shaker and the road in front of me

Re: Interior Accents - IUP Paint

Just curious how the paint has held up since you sprayed it? Also, was this color the same as an original IUP?

Re: Interior Accents - IUP Paint

Mine has been on for more than a year. Still looks absolutely perfect. It really adds to the interior look and is not very hard to do.

I'd recommend that anyone considering doing the painting use the same paint and technique I described towards the beginning of this thread.

Best to all,

Barry ( Bart) :)

I don't have the p/n, but you do mean these? I think they are actually silver dyed leather.

I also painted some peices on my interior recently and that it is a pain to match the color. Mine matched up pretty well but i'm not 100 percent satisfied with them. I think i might try them again with the color code and spray gun you used. Thanks again and awesome job!

ok i just went to buy this paint and they said its not a valid PPG #. They told me the PPG # should only be 5 digits and the closest thing to that # was a toyota white :notsure:

any ideas what the heck is going on??

Thanks,
Chris

David,

After seeing those pictures of your interior, I may have to have mine painted like that by my body shop. That interior looks phenominal. I have a black mach one, and I have a black/silver theme going on inside the car with a silver MGW shifter handle/ebrake handle, brushed radio faceplate w/factory black buttons, and mirror a/c panel w/factory black a/c knobs. Those silver highlights would take the bland mustang interior to the next level. Great work!

[QUOTE=Bart]Hi Steve - it was about 10:30 here and I wasn't sleepy, so decided to take a few shots and post them. Fortunately, my wife still likes my warm body.:)

Specifics on the paint: PPG #902178 - 2003 Ford Car & Truck Interior " Medium Gray Metallic". It's Deltron DIU Interior Basecoat Color that does not require clearcoating.

The Sprayer I used: http://www.prevalspraygun.com/
I bought mine from the paint supplier. It was only $4.79 as you don't need all the extra jars, etc. One air source is good for about 12 ounces of paint.

I did ask if they could just put the paint in a spray can. They can't because to work properly this paint needs to be mixed with a reducer/hardner. The paint when mixed with the hardner has a "working life" of about three hours. Consequently, the sprayer is the perfect choice. I just had them mix up a 2oz bottle of touch up and that was plenty. Clean the part well (I did not sand them, although you could very lightly with about 600 grit). Then just shake the paint well to agitate the metallic, put about 1/2 oz in the sprayer and add the reducer (3/4 oz). Gently shake to mix and then spray. Be sure to keep the sprayer pretty level (in other words, hold the part up) because with the small amount of paint in the sprayer, if it's tipped too far while spraying, it will stop feeding the paint. Keep a distance and mist the paint on, as the IUP paint is put on pretty dry. Actually, it's very easy, despite all the words I just used. Lastly, clean the sprayer well with thinner and you will have it for future use.

Originally, I thought of spraying other interior trim pieces as well but decided not to (at least for now) because I did not want to have that "Oh, he painted all that" look. I was hoping for it to look sharp and like it came that way from the factory. To me, that look is there so I'm very likely done.

Best to all,

Bart ( Barry):) :)[/

Near the end of this thread someone says they acn't find the paint. I went to the ppg website and the ppg# 902178 is not found. Does anyone know the correct paint code? I am goingt to attempt to paint the radio face. Also does anyone know how to remove the stock radio face?

Does anyone know of a model paint or something that matchs the IUP color? My center trim piece some touching up, but I don't need a whole can of PPG.

Re: Interior Accents - IUP Paint

The paint still looks like new and has not a scratch or nick in it. Since you use hardner it is quite tough.

I will check this week and see if the paint number has changed. Sometimes from year to year they (PPG) change things.

The match is about perfect and I am very picky, so I don't say that lightly.

I'll post more info by the end of this week.

Best to all,

(Bart) Barry

Here's a thought. How about the door handle nook as well. It'll keep people from fishing around blindly looking for the handle. Just a thought.

Re: Interior Accents - IUP Paint

It looks great I am planning to steal that look. My friend at work has a 01 Saleen and it has that peice painted too. But on his the part where you grab to close the door is then repaing BLACK and it is scracthed in parts where you can see the silver again. Shitty job if you ask me!! Anyways hope my turns out the good as well!
