The wiring harness is 03 Cobra specific. I would double check
the 3650 harness. I am almost sure they are very close in
design though. Enjoy.

If you wanted an auto why did you buy a 5 spd???

03Steve 12-07-2004 04:41 PM

More info on the Fox body rear.
I didn't think they were a direct swap for the 96+?
I guess your ABS is long gone?

Um, ok, I dont' see the answer, am I blind? :D

The question still stands for me. even with a 10 sec. car, if you are going with an auto, it wuldn't be stock anywho....

mlv289 12-07-2004 05:51 PM

He put an automatic in his cobra, which only come in manual.

.

Since when?

mlv289 12-07-2004 05:58 PM

I will be happy to admit if I am wrong, but I believe since 1993...

NoMoreGT 12-07-2004 06:42 PM

I believe SVT has never produced an Automatic Cobra. I can't be positive for years 94/95, but I am pretty sure. I am however, prositive that they have not produced one from 96 and up. No auto 4.6 4V Cobra;)

Lentech is not a stock automatic!

Mach1Baby 12-07-2004 08:44 PM

So steve?

So steve how much did it cost you total to turn ur stick into an auto? How do you like it, what kinda tranny u got in it, let me know

jonkolo 12-07-2004 08:55 PM

Funny this came up. I was wondering how hard it would be to do this to a 97 cobra convertible. Total $? What about labor?

Switch for overdrive to replace coin holder? The OD switch should be on the side of the shift handle.

It bolts up like one. All the fastening points and sensors are in the factory stock location.

I used a fox rear to tuck the tires in. 28x13.5x15 Hoosiers in the back. They do work on 96+ cars. I have the rings pressed on the axles with the sensors in place. ABS works fine.

Honestly though, if I had to do it all over, I would not bother with the ABS stuff. It's a foo foo feature that just costs extra money to make work. And the **** ring gets in the way if a stud gets spinned in the axle.

03Steve 12-07-2004 09:15 PM

Add all of the parts above, along with:

-Lentech Strip Terminator 4R70W ($2595)
-9.5" 3200 non-locking converter ($595)
-35 spline input shaft and stage 2 drum ($399)
-Shipping ($175)

I sold the T-56 for about $2000, and some other goodies that were associated with the manual tranny. That helped with the cost.

Labor is a good weekend. Like any "larger than bolt on" job, the most difficult part is having all the right parts on hand, and having someone around to go on a part run.

Getting all the parts on hand is key, that shortens labor. That is why I created this write-up and posted this up. To save time and aggrevation for anyone who chooses to do this.

no autos in cobras? really......Can you tell I dont' know THAT much about them...duh.

Now why did they offer the mach with an auto, but not a cobra? I could have sworn I have seen listings on dealers websites with cobras having an auto......ok that is it I am going crazy......

It is especially wierd because there is a girl that has an 04 cobra, brand new no plates, around here and I could have sworn it was an auto.....tall tale signs....smooth shift, no delay between gears, breaking until light turns green.....man am I lost....no offense to the women that come here, but this girl looks like she can barely drive an SUV....you'd have to see her.

The Mach 1 is just an upgrade package for the GT. Most of the paperwork I have from Ford that came with the car has it listed as a Mustang GT with Mach 1 package.

There are a couple of women that I know who can shift smoother than what I do normally. So the girl could know how to handle a stick, or she/her parents have to much money and had it converted for her to ba able to drive.

ZincDude 12-08-2004 07:44 PM

I'm pretty sure I have seen a 4V auto before. Last year would have been 98.

Not in a Mustang.

MyLittlePony 12-08-2004 08:36 PM

There is no such thing as a Factory auto cobra period.
No arguments, no speeches. They never made one.
I did do some minor assisting in Steve's deal though.

So there are a handful of conversions. When you have a car like Steve's..you couldn't shift fast enough...:)

ZincDude 12-08-2004 08:55 PM

Maybe you guys are right. I could have sworn I saw a 97 or 98 black conv't with an auto.

No maybe's about it. There has never been an auto tranny offered by Ford in the Cobra. If you saw one in a 97 or 98 it was either a conversion or a Fauxbra.
