TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
This will be my thread to capture the start of my Eaton swap onto my 2003 Mach 1.
I purchased a complete take-off kit from svtp website off a guy with a 2003 Cobra. My kit has a Steggy stage 4 ported Eaton, LFP single blade throttle body, AFCO single stage heat exchanger, plus all the little parts including cables, brackets, hoses, etc. Over Christmas break, I installed front heat exchanger, lines and water pump/bracket. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psc20b3447.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa033e1f2.jpg Sunday, January 4th, 2015 - Started the disassembly of my Mach 1. Removed hood and front bumper. Started removing shaker, alternator, power steering, coil covers, mass air, vacuum lines, etc. Drained radiator and removed hoses and thermostat. Spent about 2 hours on it taking my time to label everything and put small parts in ziplock bags. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psacabe6e5.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psf8fd6b13.jpg My plan is to take this project slowly and address small details to ensure it not only works properly, but looks good doing it! :D |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Good luck with your eaton swap. It's not a hard swap to do just time-consuming but you will love it when it's done. Yea I saw your other post about coolant overflow tank and it will not fit the stock hood that's why I went with a cobra hood I wanted the extra coolant from the aftermarket tank being in Florida with the heat and all.

Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Little more progress tonight.
1-6-2015 - Removed radiator and fan to give more access to front of engine. Removed intake as one unit (left top still attached). Removed entire engine harness so it was out of my way. Removed knock sensor bosses and ground them smooth my angle grinder. Mocked up the lower intake and supercharger. Gonna look pretty good! :D Ready to remove intake - http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psed72f653.jpg This plastic connection was holding the wiring harness in place and keeping the intake from moving forward! http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...pse8ddabd6.jpg Intake on the ground! http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psa7571612.jpg |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
About to remove knock sensors to allow more room to clear the supercharger manifold.

Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Do yourself a favor and have the intercooler pressure tested before final install.
You could save yourself a LOT of headaches. |

Project update - 1/9/2015 -
Removed balancer, front cover, both valve covers, oil cooler, power steering, etc. Mocked up my head-cooling mod and sat the lower intake and supercharger back on it for now. Gotta remove the EGR tube from my long tube headers. Got a plug to fit onto the header and I'll keep the EGR off for good. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...pse6ba4354.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps35739e6e.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps21020be4.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psceecb330.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps762a500b.jpg |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Pro gress (spoken with a Russian accent) LOL. I know it's hard work. The results will be well worth the effort. I like how you set the supercharger in place as a visual reminder of what it's all about.
That head cooling mod is nice. Where might I be able to find those nice adapters at? Keep the pics coming. |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Post up a pic of the cooling mod installed with the SC lower in place.
Does that fitting clear the lower? |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Looking good. Any problems getting the valve cover off without moving the master cylinder and hydraulics?

He ground the fitting and the back of the lower intake manifold slightly and it clears fine. http://www.modularmotorsportsracing.com/index.htm Item number 444992. Quote:

Placed a floor jack under back driver side of engine and raised about 1.5 inchs. Valve cover could be removed without touching the hydroboost stuff. I read a bunch of opinions on here and svtp website before deciding to do it this way. Took me about 20 minutes total! No worries about brake issues! This FINALLY came in last week. Was on order since before Christmas! Plan to start on it soon! Lethal's Budget return style system with the Walbro pumps. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps9ed53879.jpg |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Sweet fuel system parts. Good news on the hydroboost clearance, I might need to pull the DS valve cover soon.

Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Looks good so far! Just wondering though, is it still stock motor?

- Got a few parts at the powder-coaters, so cannot reassemble engine yet. - Got the Division-X fuel hat and Walbro GSS342 fuel pumps mounted and wired into my 2003 cobra fuel tank with the correct cobra fuel-level sensor. - Remade my water cooling head-cross over line. The one that came with my kit was poorly made with push-lock fittings and starlite hose. Not good. Now it's stainless line with correct fittings. I decided to use a 45* fitting on one side to give a little more clearance and prevent the hose from being in such a hard U-shape. - Had Melvin @ Fastlane Motorsports help me remove the existing upper pulley and hub and replace with a new Metco hub & pulley. Anyway here's some pics. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps46970912.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps5b5469cf.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psfba7fa09.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps736ab1d6.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps0ba32f58.jpg |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Couple of updates.
Got the powder coating completed on a few items. Started putting it back together. Small issue, I'm missing the dowel pins to center the supercharger. Got some coming in this week, but for now slapped the charger on top for mock up. Also pulled out the Mach 1 gas tank and installed the 03 cobra tank with my Division-X return style fuel system. http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...pslvtohrja.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...pskvb4eckv.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psxetee791.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...psvfvnamzv.jpg http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...pspxjmbzqr.jpg |
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project

Looks sweet man. Really like the powder coating

Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
very nice write up, the valve covers and stuff look great.

Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Are those RedHorse AN fittings? Do they work fine with the steel braided hose?
|
Re: TTSaleen's Eaton Swap Mach 1 project
Awesome progress, love the fuel setup, you have a Cobra tank..color me jealous, hard find around my parts, looks great :smokin:

Do you realize that this is NOT a cooling mod in its current configuration? Water has to be able to flow back into a moving water path for it to be effective. It needs to be Tee'd and routed back the the COT. |
