Stock Mach 1 Top-Speed??
 

Just curious, anyone know what the top speed on a 5 speed Mach 1 is?? I know I had my 99 GT to 147 before in 5th gear, it was still climbing slightly. I'm sure the Mach 1 has a little more than that.

154 for 5 speed Mach. With a few mods who knows.

Everything I've read says 151 - I got my 98GT up to 140 - no way was it going to go any faster (something like 5700 rpm in 4th).

That was at 4 in the morning on a deserted stretch of freeway - I can't imagine I'll find many opportunities to go faster in the Mach unless I get some time at a big oval track :)

A guy in Canada had the Mounties clock his car at 154 and it was stock.

I have bounced my needle off the stop, but the speedo has not been corrected since the 4.10's installed, so I don't know how fast I was actually going. I actually stayed in it to see what it would do and it started hitting the speed limiter, but I don't know what that speed is. Even with the lower gears, I still had plenty of pedal and was only around 6000 rpm's when it started cutting out, so I would expect maybe another 15 - 20 mph over the limiter.
Disclaimer: Driving at anything over the posted speed limit is illegal and unsafe to yourself and other drivers. Driving like I was would not have been done on an open highway by me due to this reason. Fortunately, we have a stretch of highway that was rerouted and is now closed to traffic. Although my safety was at risk, it was a 'closed course' so nobody else could have been hurt. Not preaching, just wanting to clear that up before the moderator's chimed in. :3:

So, there is a speed limiter eh? 154 isn't bad, but, I think the car has more in it than that. When I did 147 in my '99 GT, it was like 3 in the morning, Monday morning at that, noone was on the road. I did it on a long straight stretch of highway. I let of at 147 b/c the car just felt like it was getting too light for my liking. Darn stock 4X4 ride height!! lol I couldn't tell you how fast my Buick would go, all I know is that it would redline in overdrive.....and it got there REAL quick.

It is 154, i've watched the dyno tuner change it to 255 when i got my chip :)

Been up to 144 in the mach and it still had plently of pedal. Stock speed limiter is 151. Can be adjusted with a predator or any other tuning device.

Ive hit 143.7 on the digital speedometer. That was scary!

I heard the stock limiter was 151, of course easily altered with a programmer.

According to my GPS it's 152 and I've had it there many times here in Germay! With the top speed removed with a chip or programers you're limited by power, curves, and balls. Seen blown GT's and Cobra's top 170MPH here with ease on the straight aways.

I have an automatic and I hit the rev limit at around 125. But...it didn't do it everytime. It was just shutting down and I couldn't figure out why until the guys in the car club reminded me I had an automatic. :rolleyses

The Mach with the 4.10's and and the SCT re-flash had me at a Hair over 160. Thats was f'in fast. It was on RT 8 too. I'm not lying either. I have a Garmin GPS Nav system That I had in the car at the moment.

Mine was set to 126 before I removed the speed limiter with the preditor. I tested it to make sure it was gone and it was. The car went from 125-135 so fast I couldn't believe it.

I think they did that to prevent you from shifting into overdrive at wide open throttle. This happens with stock gears around 130MPH. I just let up on mine around 125 and let it shift, then I put it back to the floor and everything was fine.

Remember, a speed limiter and rev limiter are two different things.

gps is probably the most reliable... it may be moving 120 mph or 180, if the car thinks it's 154, it's 154 and it takes your toy away... i'd be interested to find a testing track where i could run it for 2-3 miles to see what the top speed is now...

Was the spedometer correct at those speeds? Seems like it would be since it's all digital.

I have had mine going over 130 and it still had a lot to offer. I think with a better air intake it should take right off.

I've seen 150 on the speedo, have no idea how accurate it was.

When I still had my Mach I had a 100 hp shot of N20 on it and 3.90 gears and a tune, and I was able to pull (albeit going down about a 2% grade) about 4700 in 5th and around 5400 with the N20. I calculated it out and with the N20 it was around 168 and 152 N/A. It was fun, didnt take long to climb from 4700 to 5400 with the N20 either, I would have stayed in it longer but started running out of road. It wasnt the smartest thing to do it in 5th, but I was just curious I suppose which took all rational out of not doing it.

With the top speed off I have now taken the car to 163 MPH it would do some more but I ran out of straight road and the traffic was getting heavy.
Yes the speedo is close to the GPS with 2-5 MPH but didn't really have time to stare at it.
Oh, you said stock yes they hit the top speed limiter from the factory with no problems. But if you want to go faster then that it would no longer be stock would it?

I dont recommend going over 160 the old mach doesnt handle to well past that speed just trust me on that.

Yeah that is pretty fast. I thought 130 was fast.
