2018 Plans for your car.

Just out of curiosity...what is everyone planning for their Mach's this year. I know i go into every year with something of a plan (subject to change as i go of course).

Since I basically rebuilt the suspension last year, did ac lines and dryer, wheels and tire upgrade, and replaced the fuel pump after it took a dump...this year's focus for me is on the cosmetics and trim pieces that have seen better days.

15 year old window tinting finally started having some issues, so getting that re-done today.

Planning on,
new headlights
carpet needs replacement
replace the driver side switch panel insert (cracked)
Seriously looking at the SVE Fr500 steering wheel (would like anyones 2c on that by the way)
replace window switch on the passenger side door.

Wish list...
Front Seat covers
Stereo Upgrade (already have a good head unit in the car)

Anyway, just focusing on trying to get the old girl's cosmetics up to speed this year...

of course...never know what mechanical things may crop up...but...

I only plan on driving mine more. With only 37K on it, nothing needs replaced. I put 6K on last year. Try and put 5K on this year. It's way more enjoyable driving the Mach in Iowa than it was in Seattle. The traffic and amount of idiots is far fewer.

wish mine was still that low mileage. but...unfortunately I had to use her as a daily for about 6 years...

Swap the 4r70 for a 6r80. New suspension, k member and coil overs. That’s it for this year.

going to need a new set of tires when mine comes out of storage this spring/summer.

Have to decide to drive it more or sell it! :horse:

Last year I did not even put it on the road and the year before I drove it maybe 50 to 100 miles.. bought it brand new #feelsbadman..

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

New shocks/struts
Set of 15” rear wheels with some sticky *** tires
Get the tune finalized and some dyno numbers
Make a few passes (haven’t run it in like 9 years and 400hp less)
Put the 99/01 cobra front bumper on and have the front 1/3 of the car sprayed
HID retrofits

I might also take out this lethal fuel system and go with a Fore setup

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

Plan on going the forced induction route this year.

- P-1X Procharger Kit & Dyno Tune
- Kooks Long Tube Headers & Catted X-Pipe
- Replace Rear Tires with Nitto NT555 G2s

Next year, I'll focus on aesthetics (fresh paint job, replace worn out plastic parts, and Mach 1 vinyl decals). Bigger brakes to help slow down the Mach.

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

First things first....got a spot in the garage cleared out to park it. I have a few maintenance items on the list....new rotors and pads; and my battery cable posts have finally bit the dust....need to replace those.

Would love to get my hands on some AFS deep dish 17's....and it needs a paint job bad. Been putting it off for a while, but now that I've got dedicated garage space, I need to stop putting it off.

Im not happy at all the starter access and ground clearance with my kooks for whatever thats worth. Ive got a tubular K member and changing a starter would still be a real tough chore with these things

Get this 2001 Bullitt fuel door paint matched, the fasteners that go around it polished, and get it installed. Had it in a box for over a year. Time to get it done.

Once temps get above 70°, install this amber fog light tint

Paint and install the steeda wiper delete caps

Repair passenger side skirt. Hit a rock and it broke that plastic tab underneath that attaches it to the pinch weld. Guess im just going to run a self-tapping sheet metal screw through it...dont know any other way to do it

Install this H3R performance Halon fire extinguisher

Probably have to replace front drive snout bearings on the blower. I think one is going bad.

Yeah, the G2's are a pretty good tire as far as the balance between performance, durability, and affordability. I have them on the front wheel, but ended up going with the 1st Gen NT555s in the rear due to a great deal on price. I have to replace the rear tires now, because of the damage from the fenders rubbing the tires when I lowered the car with Eibach Sportlines. I just recently done the rear fenders rolled, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Is there another brand of headers/X-pipe combo that you would recommend with better clearance? I already have a feeling that I'm going to have clearance issue since my car has Eibach Sportlines.

2018 Plans for your car.

Complete the rebuilt engine, and install.
Dial in tune.
Get the Terminator IRS and install it.
New catback.
Paint work done.
All the incredibly tacky “mods” taken off.
All painted interior parts paint back stock.
Get Cobra ambers.
Really idiotic that a 33k mile car can be in the shape it’s in. But I’ll get her running good and looking pretty again. Many more things planned but I can only do so much this year. Very eager to get her on the road, never driven a Mach 1 before. And I’m really looking forward to popping that cherry with my own Mach 1. 😊

Pick your poison.

I opted to go back to a 9” wheel in the rear and am running 275/35r18’s because I don’t want to roll the quarter wheelhouse lip. Fought the tire cut down issue on a couple tires...decided to take the easy way out. Plus I drive mine on the street mostly so I can rotate...

If I was gonna do it again I’d look into ARH. I’ve also heard great things about figment and ground clearance from Mack headers, idnjust get them coated first. Also I have a t56 so the bellhousing is removable and I don’t have to worry about pass side clearance when pulling the trans compared to a 3650

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

Just bought mine over New Year's weekend, after drooling over the Machs for years. It was a one-owner car, ordered new in the summer of '02, and it was well cared for. Having said that, it did have some issues that are common with a 15 year old car. So, 2018 will be spent getting mine back to original condition again.

- I just got it home from the body shop. They repainted the hood, front bumper cover, and blended the two front fenders. This was needed because rock chips had obliterated the front of the car.

- Passenger headlight is full of water so that'll get replaced soon.

- Driver side fog light needs to be cleaned or replaced...it's much dimmer than the passenger side, even with two new matching bulbs in them.

- I changed the plugs and checked that all service was up to date.

- I did go ahead and add an O/R H-pipe because I figured the cats were likely pretty dirty inside and I wanted to make the car breathe better again. While I was under there, I installed a Ford Racing aluminum driveshaft which killed two birds with one stone by replacing the stock U-joints which had 129,000 on them.

- My focus now is turning to the interior. The driver seat bolster is torn from years of abrasion getting in and out of this low-sitting car. The headliner is starting to slightly peel at the windshield. I'll be working on these things next, plus the car needs a thorough vaccum/cleaning.

- The windows are still factory but I'll likely tint them soon to help protect the interior in the hot summer sun this year. I'm hoping that this is the last year the car will spend outdoors. I'll have it in the garage beginning this coming fall.

After that, I'll just keep it serviced religiously, drive it to shows all over Kentucky, and pray that I never see that 4V knock that signals death for these engines around this mileage I'm at. :hail1:

do you mind sharing what you paid for the paint work?

also with the fog lights - they sell ones with clear lenses that look like the head lights, Id highly recommend doing that for the upgrade. It looks better and more light

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

Have a long list, but this is going to take more then 1 year to complete. Hopefully the engine gets done by the end of summer.

Engine rebuilt
Paint
New carpet
New seats
New tint
CD player
Wheels maybe FR500's
Short throw MGW
New suspension

I got two quotes. First quote was before I noticed the crack in the lower bumper cover which also was causing the passenger fog light to flop around. That quote for the paint work only was $1,100.

I then went to another shop and got a quote for the paint work plus repairing the crack in the bumper. They quoted me $800. So I let them do it. They did great work. Can't even tell it was ever painted. I'm going to source the hood decal myself from American Muscle and put that on this spring.

I think I know the fog lights you are talking about. AM sells those too and I've been eyeballing them.

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

I had the hood and front bumper repainted in November to take care of rock chips from being driven daily. It pretty much just gets driven twice a week now. They removed hood and bumper and blended into the fenders. Cost was $2200.00 including replacing the hood stripes. Work was next to perfect. One of the employees used to work for 50Resto and they put a new front spoiler on at no charge for me.

Next to do this year are shocks / struts, complete brake job with new rotors, replace serpentine belt along with tuneup and fuel filter. In the fall I'll do oil change and coolant flush.

I got a "hotwheels logo" badge (from a 2013 Camaro Special Edition) and I'm trying to decide where to put it.

I have CAI, BAMA tune, ported and matched exhaust manifolds with full BBK exhaust. I am thinking maybe 96 Cobra intake cams would finish it off? Can't remember if those cams effect smog though. Guessing no since they are stock on Cobras.

Removing the 14yr old tint for a clean look and 3M clear film. Installing Bassani X-pipe w/cats. Fix rear window defrost tab. Purchase Bilstien struts so I can finally lower the Mach. I’ve had Springs, rear shocks and CC plates in the garage for years now.

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

Well its been a productive 2018 for our Mach already:
  • new 18" rims and tires
  • stock air box and filter
  • leds in fog, dome, and some other exterior lamps
  • sequential taillight harnesses and relay
  • installed new shifter bezel due to damage
  • installed IAC plate to solve hi idol on start up
  • installed hood struts
  • Stars and Stripes pony
  • shorter antenna
  • new car cover & battery tender
  • installed cobra mirrors

Since this is my WIFE's car, she says she just wants to replace the faded tint and we are done, lol

Yep staggered with 275's in the front and 295's in the rear. Running Nitto NT05s. I wanted something different and these gt350 knockoffs definitely look killer in person. I had some mach 1 center caps to match my car made. The logo is in light blue like the ones everyone used to get from making it digital. They shipped from the Ukraine lol. I got them today after 20 days in shipping. Gonna look great.

Re: 2018 Plans for your car.

Got two quotes to repair my driver side seat "leather" which is actually vinyl I guess. First shop $250, second shop $360. The second shop gets the job because they work on classic cars all the time so they understand what I'm trying to accomplish, whereas the first shop does custom work for 'hood rides mostly to make things flashy.

So, hopefully the interior will be complete by the end of this month and then I just have some touch-up work to do on the exterior to get her ready for car shows.

I'm also having trouble hitting 3rd gear at heavy throttle so I'm going to look into what causes this and try to make it better.

those came in just after i got my gloss black fr5's last year. really like that wheel. I had seen the pre-production wheel and it was spot on.

had to get something done when i did and these were a few weeks out still when i got the fr5's. had someone waiting for my other wheels so i had to move...

May upgrade to these next year or at next tire change...(which as most of you know is usually when i change wheels LOL.)

Nice!

2 ways to do it:
1) take a tiny flat blade screwdriver and try to pry off where the lil push in clips are making sure not to chip/damage your paint...

or the method I used

2) grab firmly and pull the entire scoop off :??:, its held on w/6 tiny nylon clips that are pretty tough, in fact, the scoop plastic mounts (6) will brake before the clips do, I had to re-glue two of my clip retainer mounts which was no biggie w/superglue. The good news if you do this method is, there is a plastic seal behind the scoop and in most cases it is not stuck on to the car any longer so you can clean it up and reseal it to the car, I used a lil rtv silicone since the original glue was contaminated with dirt/dust and resealed it to the car.

Once you get the scoop off the inserts just push out from the back side.

Where to get them:
you can buy used cobra side scoops on ebay but you have to look for ones w/the terminator inserts or there is actually a guy also on ebay selling some of those NOS inserts at a NOS price too  Not sure how many sets he has left as these are no longer made.

Thanks to 2 members on this forum; 311-420 & ab_mach1 for the idea...

Things I've already done:
Install the RXT twin disk.
JLT catch cans on both sides.

Things to do:
Install the fire suppression system.
Install the new 5 point harness. (old one is out of date)
Install Procharger Big-red blowoff valve.
Install new front runners. (old ones are worn out.)
Get her to the track and run in the 10's.
