Modded or stock?
I know a lot of owners love to mod their cars and some prefer to keep their car stock. I would think that by now, there are fewer stock Mach 1s available than modded ones. Maybe far fewer.
So what category do you fall in? If this has been asked before, I apologize in advance. |

Re: Modded or stock?
When I purchased mine it had C.A.I, Flow Master Exhaust (original in in basement), "MUSTANG" Decal on the rear bumper & Tinted windows. I have removed the C.A.I and replaced with the stock one but I have added the 40th Anniversary Emblem to the Shifter Bezel. I have MACH1 Floor mats to instal in the spring and I REALLY wanna get new Mach Style wheel & tires (glad that AFS is starting again) Only other thing I keep thinking about is the Honey Comb Panel for the rear, but I don't wanna remove the emblems.
So not sure where I fall......both choice's are pretty close :) Stock... Almost like it just rolled out of the factory. Slight changes, but very close to stock. |
Re: Modded or stock?
While mine is non-stock under the hood and floorpan, it is stock in appearance. The only visual non-factory pieces are the Wheel Replica FR5's and SSS rolled exhaust tips.

Re: Modded or stock?
Other than a K&N drop in filter, not too far removed from the way it rolled off the DAP line 8 years ago.

Re: Modded or stock?
As of now it's pretty stock other than bolt-on's/gears/suspension. The only type of cars I can see leaving stock are restored pre-early 70's pony cars, ect.
I just don't see the point in leaving Cobras, Mach 1's, ect. stock. They're really not all that rare and they're meant to be driven. They're not "elite" enough to be the "all factory original" weekend car. That's just my opinion though. |

Near stock here. JLT RAI CAI, Pro 5.0 Shifter w/ MGW Limited Handle, SSS Catback, 8" shorty antenna, 1" H&R rear wheel spacers, and Black MUSTANG rear bumper letters. I also have a stock ported and polished T/B that I need to install. I want to do so much more too. Only 12,2XX miles on the clock.

Mine is far from stock.
New stereo system went in the day I drove it home (transplaneted from my '03 GT) FR500 replica wheels IC KB 2.1 4.10s short throw shifter SS Mustang inserts on the rear bumper. |
Re: Modded or stock?
Performance wise just a drop in Spectre air filter, but lots of tastefull appearance mods.

I loved my older cars (73 Mach 1, the 78 Formula, and 85 Trans Am), but they sure weren't models of quality. They paled in comparison to cars I've owned from the early 90s to the present. I think that's one reason why I keep my cars a lot longer now. |

Re: Modded or stock?
I have a few bolt ons but something inside me is wanting to put the mach back to stock (performance wise) besides the MGW and Borlas. The car seemed more fun when it was essentially stock then modded.

Stock as stock can be

Re: Modded or stock?
Mine "appears" stock (aside from the red stripes :31:)
BUT (big but), I plan to upgrade the exhaust first ( ? x-pipe and Borla catback) and then improve the driveline (i.e. torque converter, build up trans, drive shaft, 31 spline axles and diff and then some gears (don't know what ratio yet though)... |
Re: Modded or stock?
What is this "stock" that you mention?

Re: Modded or stock?
Factory suspension is a disaster to put it nicely. No way I'd live with it stock. Mine is moderately modded and will likely eventually hit the point of no return.

Re: Modded or stock?
This is certainly a small sample, but it does appear that finding a low mileage, stock Mach 1 (like I did last year) is something that is pretty rare now and bound to become even harder to find in the future. There may be as many dramatically altered Mach 1s as there are stock Mach 1s (even more in this poll).

Mines not stock!

Re: Modded or stock?
I have lowered it, added AFS 10.5s and Visus louvers for the mods on the exterior. I like the idea of keeping the Stock/Mach look.
Under the hood is a different story. Interior looks stock except for pillar gauges. |
Re: Modded or stock?
I just got my 2003 mach 1 a couple weeks ago. The only thing that I can tell as of right now that isn't stock is the Bassani exhaust on it... Sounds very nice....
As time goes some of the mods that I plan on doing are. JLT RAI New pulleys X-pipe Long Headers Tuner(With all the engine/exhaust that might be obvious) Black Rims to really set off the White color of the car. Short Throw Shifter Chrome switches (Window, locks A/C controls) Might throw Cams in it...Beyond my ability to put in myself so it would depend on how much it would cost to have someone else do them. By the time I get all this stuff done...It will prolly be time to rebuilt the engine...soooooo... Everything to do that...lol |

What makes you say that???

Re: Modded or stock?
Underdrives have caused issues with the Mach, do a search. They aren't worth the money.
Full exhaust Intake - port and polish it, throttle body and head side Throttle body - either polish and port match factory to the intake or get an Accufab CAI and RAI are over rated - it's the tune that does the hp increase, not the CAI/RAI. Save your money here. Stay factory and leave the screen in, it's there for a reason. Intake spacer - small gains NA power - do cams Real power - put a blower on it but be careful with the stock bottom end. |

Re: Modded or stock?
If I do pick up a Mach(black), I'll be setting aside a couple bucks when I do and it'll look different the week I get it. A friend of a friend does wraps, dips, and detailing for a high end body shop(he carbon fiber wrapped the roof of a Ferrari 575 recently, not sure what that says about the owner...). Figure he could give me a hand plasti-dipping gloss red stripes and probably shaker and wing too. Black with red stripes is the sexy.
Actually have a whole black/red interior theme planned which should cost next to nothing after I sell the in-demand stock bits. Performance mods could include anything, but it'll stay NA since it would be my daily. |
Re: Modded or stock?
Just bolt ons
|
Re: Modded or stock?
Mine is lowered, with chrome, staggered 17 inch FR500's, tinted windows, and the rear honeycomb panel. Not many mods under the hood though, just the K&N RAI, an off road h-pipe, and magnaflow mufflers with bigger tips. Would love to do more in the future.

Re: Modded or stock?
Mine is stock except 10.5 wheels in back and a Hurst shifter.
I'm the original owner with 33,000 miles. |
Re: Modded or stock?
I'm proud to be part of the smallest group!!! MAJOR MODS FTMFW!!! lol

Re: Modded or stock?
Wandering a bit from my mostly stock Mach 1. Just got a Bassani exhaust installed. Wow. Wish I would have done that a few years ago. Amazing sounds. The stereo is getting a well deserved rest. Even the AC is taking a break, so I can enjoy the sound with the windows down.
