Poll:Who does and doesn't have the "tick"
I do not have the tick:SMASH: (knock on wood). But I am just curious the ratio of those who currently ( or in the past ) have had it.

Have auto and 5-speed, both 03's, no ticks!!!!!! Auto has 14k and manual 9k miles on them.
 |
My 04 has only 2,300 miles and no tick... and I hope it stays that way!
|
no tick:CHEERS:
|
I've had the tick for a year now. 4,700 miles total.
Does the dealer / Ford acknowledge that there's a problem, and do they know how to fix it? Can anyone speculate on long term effects? |
04 with 1800 miles and no tick

If I sit there, concentrate, and listen hard; then sure, I can hear a tick in my engine. I wish I knew what to listen for though. The 4.6 motor sounds okay to me, and I am very familiar with 5.0 lifter ticks. Nothing that loud.
I guess I'll have to vote no. Though I wish I could hear a Mach with the tick to know what I am listening for. V/R, moodym:THUMBSUP: |

Drove the MACh doing errands, returned home and popped the hood and there was the tick. First time I was sure of what I was hearing. Dragged son and husband outside to confirm it wasn't just my ears and they heard it clearly as well. Somewhere I read you need to have the engines really warmed up before you can hear the tick, so try that if you haven't already. Also, the tick seems to be showing up at different times for everyone, IOW's if for example you don't have it by 500 miles it doesn't mean you'll not get it. I know I didn't have the tick until recently. I had periodically been checking the motor and it showed up only yesterday with 1297 miles. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. Hope this helps. Sarah |

Sarah ---------------------------------------- Meant to add..... The best I can describe the tick is it sounds like one of those old wind up alarm clocks. tick - tick - tick - tick - tick - tick And be sure to pop the hood when you're listening for the tick. Some say their are loud and some are not so loud. Mine is loud. :( Sarah |
Thought I did
But it turned out to be shaker rattle in my case. Right now I've got the problem eliminated with a old bicycle innertube. Next time I have it in for service I'll take that out, and have the dealer adjust it. Unless another more serious warranty issue comes up that I need to take it in for.

Mine almost sounds like a lifter tick.
It's most obvious when I pull up to a wall on the drivers side (Like a drive through window) The tick sound comes from the drivers side under the car. |
3300 and no tick yet.
|
No tick on mine, only has 800 miles on it though.
|
5500 miles, car built 06/10/03, no noticeable tick other than the injectors.
|
0-500 miles no tick
500-1500 miles ticking At 1500 miles I change the oil, royal purple. Somewhere around 1800 miles the ticking stopped. No tick and the car has 3800 miles on it. Wierd:confused: |
