I have catted MRT H pipe and they bolted right up to the stock exhaust, shortly after that I installed a 2 1/2" Magnaflow catback system and the MRT made my exhaust sound a little louder but not enough for me. The system has been on since almost new and sounds good, better at WOT.
I dynoed the car before and after and got maybe 8 hp. without a tune.

Ok. So this thread was really awesome at informing us unknowing newbs about how exhaust works.

I currently have the stock manifolds, stock 4 cats, stock H pipe, with Flowmaster 40's and SLP exhaust tips. I recently installed a C&L RAI, BBK Twin 62MM Throttle Body, 90 MM MAF, and have Roy's 1/2" intake spacer on the way. Now that I have the air intake portion of the motor done, I am going to focus on the exhaust.

My question is regarding headers. I have seen all different manufactures of headers and to each their own on preferences. My ultimate goal is around 800 RWHP and while the motor is in the works I am doing the exhaust, suspension, tranny upgrades. I want to know if Kooks headers that are so **** expensive :angry: are worth the money? I want a 3" exhaust system and for Kooks headers and Off/Road H-Pipe its $1600 in parts alone.

I haven't researched mufflers yet to see what is highest CFM, but that is next as I plan to do the entire exhaust at once. Orangewhip what is your input on headers?

i had a few uestions about mach 1 upgrades to my car. when i was at the Ford Nationals this past june and walked through the Mach 1 registry showfield section and talked to a guy who own a black '03 Mach 1. i cant remember his name but he was very informative. i told him that i have a black '04 Mach 1 and we were talking about the upgrades we did to our cars. one thing he was talking about that caught my interest was exhaust upgrades. i currently have flowmaster exhaust with what i believe to be the factoy h pipe on it, he showed me that he had borla exhaust which sounded amazing. he said they come in three intensity levels. i want the loudest. i cant remember what he said as far as if he had a bassani x pipe or some other manufacturer h pipe installed. what would you recommend as far exhaust upgrades in combination with borla exhaust? i want to achieve that deep powerful throaty intense muscle car soun that is more fitting to the Mach 1.

im looking at Borla's exhaust catalog. should i be looking under the 99-04mustang GT section or the 99-04 mustang cobra section. i was under the impression that the cobra and the mach 1 had the same motor. they also offer different options such as Cat-Back system "touring and Cat-Back system "S-type". Im also wondering if i buy the MRT h pipe and the Borla exhaust system will they match up correctly when i have them installed at the show?

ok this is a dumb question, im new to this so any guidance and advice would greatly be appreciated. the 03 04 mach 1 and 03 04 cobra are contemporaries and there was even an article comparing the two. the cobra has independent rear suspension. does the mach 1 have independent rear suspension?

1st. you should be looking at 99-04 Mustang GT for exhaust 2nd if ordering headers it should be for Mach 1
and 3rd only Cobras have independent rears, Machs have solid rears.

do you think that the stock catalytic converter is more efficent than the ones that come on the MRT h pipe. i was looking at the Maxflow MRT o/r h pipe. and its only offered 'without' catalytic converters. so does that mean if i buy that h pipe will i have to use the converters that are currently on my car? and will this MRT o/r h pipe system hook up to borla s type cat back exhaust without complications?

I bought the MRT high flow catted H pipe because it was less restrictive then the stock cats plus the MRT pipe is 2 1/2 inches vers 2 1/4 inches and mandrel bent, my 2004 stock catted H pipe had 6 cats 3 each side, I sold it for $200 to a guy on here.
PS yes it bolted to my stock header pipes and Magnaflow catback system with no problem, the system has been on my car for 9 years and still looks new.
It will also bolt to the stock exhaust system with no problem.

do you know if anybody has had problems bolting the MRT h pipe up to borla exhaust system. my main goal is to order borla exhaust and a x pipe or h pipe and have them installed at the Ford Nationals. I'm just trying to get information and opinions to what the best combination would be in order to achieve the deep throaty muscle car sound but still maintains efficency so it will also be "street legal".

As long as you are using stock headers you shouldn't have a problem, most after market cat back exhaust systems bolt right up to a H or X or stock pipe unless you buy a short H or X pipe for headers.
If you add long tube headers you will have to change the mid H or X pipe to a shorter mid pipe.
PS the MRT and Borla will be a clean bolt up system.

I think a lot of that depends on how insulated and air tight the cabin is. The Mach's are sealed up pretty nicely compared to older Mustangs I've driven in the past, but that depends on mileage too. I'm sure higher mile Mach's have loosened up over time. The newer Mustangs are much better in the way of cabin quietness, especially the 2015's on up.

If it's a real problem for you, one thing that might help is removing the carpet and laying down some sound dampening material, then reinstall the carpet. Then, replace any door seals that seem to be leaking. That's probably about all we can do.

I currently have a Mac O/R H-pipe, but every other piece of my exhaust system is factory stock. It actually sounds really good and is pretty loud.

My question is, has anybody ever taken a Mach 1 factory muffler apart? I want to know if it's chambered or straight through perforated with packing. I'd like to gauge how restrictive it is. Also, I heard that the Mach 1 got a "specifically tuned" exhaust for this model. What was made different about it?

Main reason I'm looking into this is that my O/R H-pipe is 2.5" and my factory cat-back is 2.25" so I want to make it 2.5" all the way out the back by using an aftermarket exhaust kit. But, if the Mach 1 mufflers are actually really good then it may not be worth it.

You should make a video of your exhaust and post it on youtube. I've always thought the Mach's would sound great with the factory exhaust and just on off road H midpipe.

I agree. My Buddy’s 2V sounds fantastic with and off-road H and 40’s. I liked it much better than the off-road X and 40’s on the Bullitt I almost bought.
