Why 2 parts #'s on Mach 1 alternators??
Question, if you go to Advance and look up alternators, it shows one for a
Auto trans http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/t...999%7CL3*15587 '''and one for manual trans http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/t...999%7CL3*15587 What is the difference other than price?? (I did notice the the auto trans one said" Supplied With Clutch or Decoupler Pulley". Would this one work for a manual trans Mach? Thanks guys!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/231394700718...84.m1555.l2649 |

Resist the urge to buy from AA . I am fortunate to have a good local rebuild shop who is usually 1/2 to 1/3 the price of new on big truck alternators

Re: Why 2 parts #'s on Mach 1 alternators??
The auto and manuals used a different amp alternator. I'm not entirely sure what the reasoning is behind it. I'd get the higher amp one regardless, some people even run aftermarket alternators rated at 170+ amps, to reduce voltage drop issues which eventually cause a lean condition.
I wonder if the 03+ crown vic p71 alternators would work on our cars. After some research I guess they switched to having a clutch type alternator to eliminate premature failures the older 130 amp models were having. The bullitt/mach alternators are also apparently thinner to provide clearance for the intake manifold, but since the centri's change the alternator location I wonder if there would still be clearance issues. I just swapped the belt in my p71 and the stock alternator is 200amps. Ebay has reman and used ones for under $150. They both rotate the same direction, I'd image it would work. |

The pulley is different and it doesn't stick out far enough. I bought a alternator and it turned out it was for a auto.
