Ford get it together!

I don't know how many of you have been watching all the bad publicity videos on YouTube of the 2018-19 Mustang! They are talking about the shift forks breaking, typewriter tick and piston slap! Ford is phasing out it's car lineup except for the Mustang. If they don't address these issues they won't have a future fan base for that either! They turned a cold shoulder to the auto tranny problems of the Focus and Fiesta, and have ruined the reputation of those vehicles. I don't get this mentality and I have been a Ford fan my whole life. What are your thoughts?

Cars largely aren’t selling, everyone is announcing killing off most cars

I looked at the Ford dealers today. They now have the trucks on the front row of the dealerships and they're putting cars on the back lot. This one dealer had about 20 F250's on the front row. They were all $70k+.

I won't be forced into the SUV market, I want to choose for myself. I'll own nothing but carbureted cars and the big 3 can go pound sand... Our state has changed the inspection laws and made driving an old car so much easier...

The brand-loyal "car guy" has been a dying breed.
Ford is just another auto retailer diluted in a world market saturated with other competitive auto retailers.

Back in the 80s, their mentality on car quality significantly damaged their reputation and gave the Asian auto makers a secure foothold on the American car market. (And before that, there was the Pinto.)

General masses are comfortable with familiarity. IMO, this is why all the auto retailers ended up making cars that all look and "feel" the same - no one wanted another Edsel. However, this makes it very difficult to keep people in a brand.

Light truck and SUV sales are what is keeping both Ford and GM in business right now. No longer building cars is fine and dandy in the current market; we will see what happens after gas prices and interest rates have significantly climbed.

And... I have no idea where i'm going with all of this.

Would you be talking about Mac Haik? Most of their cars are across the freeway in the dirt by the rock quarry.

Both of the Ford and Chevrolet dealers in McGregor. I'm looking for an SUV. Escape or Equinox. I just don't think I would like the stop-start technology on the Escape. But the Equinox is too big. Might look at VW Tiguan.

Big Ron

there are various ways to disable the stop/start - Ive seen F150 guys just undo a plug but that sets a bunch of trouble codes that dont trip the check engine light or anything. Some have wired in a resistor, others have used Forscan software to disable it. Forscan to the best of my knowledge can be fully put back to stock and leaves no fingerprints they would look for unlike doing a flash for more power

Pretty much sums it up, TBH. That and any opportunity for a manufacturer to save money building the cars... Less differentiation and/or models equals similar or shared tooling equals less plant space needed equals more money per sale.

Re: Ford get it together!

I have mixed feelings about it all. I have never owned anything but Fords.

Summer of 17 I bought a new Fusion. Base car, the "S" model. We also drive them as fleet cars at work in the SE trim. It was $2500 more than a focus. Which was a no-brainer.

I can say I have Zero complaints about the car. and for what it is, it is a solid car. I keep cars simple though and don't go for the whistles and bells.

I want a newer Mustang, but just don't want to plunk down 30-40k for a car that I cannot have confidence in. Go with the 10r80 auto and you still don't have a guarantee you are free of transmission issues. That and I still want a 6 speed (but not one with aluminum shift forks that are prone to break).

I think the 18 issues go under the category of don't buy the first year of a new model...in that case the Gen3 coyote...and the "new" version of the MT82.

Yes, I do expect more from Ford. Especially on Mustang. with the cost of these cars today, I cannot justify the expense when there are so many known reliability issues on such basic parts.

I have been wanting to buy a new vehicle lately but everything coming out now is so darn expensive. They priced themselves out of my money for now.

Did the Build and Price thing on Ford's website. Went with a 5.0, auto trans, cloth interior, standard wheels, updated to 3.55 gears. No bells or whistles or extra speakers or leather .... priced out at $37,000. Not me brother. Guess it is my Mach and my ol' 5.0 forever.

Ford get it together!

I like the Bullitt and a RC Roush Jackhammer, and that’s about it. I’ll keep both my 3V’s and my Mach as I’m fond of them and the new stuff doesn’t make me want to sell my 4.6’s for them. If I was to buy a new car it’d most likely be a Challenger T/A, and I’ll put the right friggin hood on it and side exhaust.

Pick your poison.

apparently the most boring release in a while. The car is gonna be a stone cold killer but they seem to be dropping the ball on the launch here

I can agree with that. No manual transmission.

eh, at these power levels I can see both sides of the argument.

I can't believe they "announced" the car without even having final power numbers

Re: Ford get it together!

You know, I was telling myself there would be no way I’d want one of these, especially considering the GT350 will still be available, but oh my...

https://youtu.be/wecVzPzf8R4

It doesn’t bother me that there’s no manual. After all, the GT350 will still be available and it’s a gem of a Mustang too. Now I just need to play the lottery lol :23:

They need to be proactive and get there act together, people are not brand loyal anymore!

Now if I can just get them to cover the underpaint corrosion on the Boss 302s hood.
