Can you answer This Question.
See if you can figure this out. I can't
3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5. ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF. THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29. WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR? |
Re: Can you answer This Question.
The room was 25 dollars. Each man paid 10=30 Bellboy gave back 1 each and kept 2. = 5 dollars . So 25 plus 5 =30

With skills like that, I am sure the Bellboy went on to work for the IRS refund dept.:smokin:

Re: Can you answer This Question.
It boils down to mixing addition and subtraction when only one or the other should be used:
$10 x 3 = $30, the original price of the room. $30 MINUS $3 = $27, the price minus the three dollars the bellboy returned. $27 MINUS $2 (not plus) = $25, which is the price of the room. OR $25 (actual price of the room) PLUS $3 (that the bellboy returned) = $28. $28 PLUS $2 (that the bellboy kept) = $30, or the original amount paid. The original problem is trying to get the number back to $30, when you actually need to attain $25. So the question sets you up to solve for the wrong result, and thus the illusion of the missing dollar. |

25/3=8.33 now 8.33+1=9.33 now 9.33*3=28(roughly) 28+2=30 theyre just double talking you to confuse you.if you only look at the #'s it adds up. |

How do you figure that they didn't pay $9. I see your numbers there but remember, they initially paid $10 each and then they each received $1 back. If I give someone $10 and they give me $1 back, isn't that a total of $9 that they received? According to your numbers, your missing roughly $0.66 per guy because if they gave them ten and got $1 back, how does that equal $8.33. There is still physically $9 missing from their wallet. This is just too confusing. :rolleyses |
Re: Can you answer This Question.
ok the cost of the room was 25.divide that by 3 and you get 8.33.now the bell hop gave them a dollar back 8.33 plus 1 equals 9.33.now multiply 9.33 times 3.you get 28.the bell hop kept 2 dollars.28 plus 2 equals 30.they are double talking you to confuse you.

Re: Can you answer This Question.
ok maybe youll see it this way.30 to start.take away 2 that the bell hop kept thats 28.divide 28 by 3 and you get 9.33.now take away 1 from 9.33 and you get 8.33.multiply 8.33 time 3 and you get 25.its an illusion.

Re: Can you answer This Question.
Simple way to look at it..the room is 25...when the bellboy gave them each $1 back, they actually paid $27 for the room, and the bellboy kept the $2 change.

Re: Can you answer This Question.
At a rate of 15% , how much money did they save in Tax between $30.00 and $25.00. Also did the bellhop claim this $2.00 as earnings for tax purposes ?
If they paid in Canadian dollars, what was the exchange rate that day ? So many details left out of this problem. |
