Re: Part number for coolant crossover plug

I wish someone made a m22x1,25 bolt. thats exactly what we need for this. i tried a m22x1,5 drain plug and it just starts and wont go in any further.

Re: coolant crossover plug for sale

I've got an extra one of these, sold my Mach, never used it. WITHOUT the hole for the temp sensor.

$20 shipped

Re: coolant crossover plug for sale

I just drilled 3 holes 3/16" in a stock replacement 180 thermostat and have the fan overide switch so no need to burp and runs much cooler between rounds at the strip. I run the fan with motor off for 5 min at a time and then start motor to cycle the coolant for approx. 30 seconds and then repeat a few time before my next pass with the heat on 1 line of stock temp gauge...

Ha I wish I could get mine out :( . I think the extractor was about to break before I was going to budge that stud. Just wound up drilling a hole, tapping it and plugged it with a bolt lol.

Metal? coolant crossover plug

Sorry to bring back this from the dead, but is the plug made of metal? I had it off less than 60,000 miles ago but can't remember. I wanna say it is.

Can't I weld a nut on top if I can't break it loose?--yes I used anti-seize :)
I figure that or try heating just below it or both.
My non-mechanic dumb partially self stripped the 1/4 drive slot (thanks for the small hole Ford).

I have a stainless replacement one on the way from Ebay.

Yes the plug itself is metal. An easier way to get it off if you've stripped the slot is to CAREFULLY get some vise grips and ensure you just get the teeth on the little outside lip of the plug and slowly and CAREFULLY turn it off.

But to answer your question, yes I believe you could weld a nut on the top.

Thanks--stuck coolant crossover plug

Yes I tried that but I think my vise grips I own are to puny. The "teeth" are where it won't grip that lip good without trying to grab the down tube :(
I am also thinking maybe if I take the large coolant hose off & spray PB Blaster up in there that might help. It is tough to get it just under that lip!
I also bought a butane torch to help heat that up, but may leave that to my welder friend since I have already screwed up once :)

Thanks for the tip

Success for stuck coolant crossover plug

Well the right vise grips & a chisel finally broke it free! Took 4 hands 😮
Replaced with stainless steel with some antiseize on it.
Replaced original T-stat with a Motorcraft replacement & MC gold coolant
Thanks everyone 👍

Glad you got it. Sounds like that puppy had never been removed before.

Stuck plug:coolant crossover plug

It had been off only about 60000 miles ago, but since I don't drive much it had been like 6 years! I just realized that when I looked at my maint log. Shame on me!
:anger:
Time to put that in my maint. log that keeps up with miles/age :)

Re: Part number for coolant crossover plug

FYI 2018: Most of the links to where to buy these no longer work in this thread BUT a guy on ebay sells stainless plugs for our cars :gears: And all of the major aftermarket parts places for stangs sell a similar to OE plug.
