ride with a hamptons cop, i couldn't get in the car their heads are so big (sorry cheap shot) as for petty crimes thats all that goes on in the hamptons... unless you count billy joel assulting another tree with a hand made sports car... ... again

not trying to ruffle feathers, i do respect the law, some things just bother the hell out of me though, like why do nypd gets paid 35 g's a year and a county cop gets 100 g's (i know its the budget)

She stopped in the middle of the road when she realized she wasnt gonna make it before I hit her, so to avoid hitting her I swirved to the right and slammed into the curb just after the street she was turning into. My tire had a hole in it with leaking air and the rim was badly dented up not to mention needing a bigtime alignment job as well. I also called the police and filed a report(this was before I was a cop) and the lady admitted complete fault for the accident. We both had the same insurance company(Geico) and they put up the same fight your talking about. They only wanted to cover half of the cost and said I was half at fault for "Faulty evasive action". Needless to say I threw up the :bs: flag and chewed into them for it. After threatening to take the case to the New Mexico Regulatory Commission they gave in and gave me full compensation for the accident. Stupid car insurance companies expect you to pay an arm and a leg every month to cover your car and when something does happen, they dont want to fulfill their end of the deal. It takes alot to get me mad(and I mean alot) cuz im very laid back, but these guys managed to do it.

in NY your 20% at fault just for being there :headbang:

H&K USP 40 here.

We have piece of junk Beretta 9mm. The Air Force is planning to switch to something else(rumor has it they are gonna be Sigs). Not entirely sure what they are yet, but just about anything would be better than these berettas. If we get the Sigs that will be awesome cuz those are nice guns.

Yup, and we both had Geico too. I don't carry Geico after that. And it took a month and a half to get them to pull their head out of their rear.

What really got me was the Geico Rep told me over the phone(NO FRIGGIN LIE) "You would have been better off hitting her." When I heard that I was like :surprise: Are you freakin kidding me?!?!!?

I was told basically the same thing. The biggest thing that irked me was the comment about the cop not being qualified... :SMASH: I wonder who they call when they need someone???

The underlying problem with fielding situational questions is that without having all the information, its very difficult to give an accurate answer. Many times I get questions from people who heard it from a friend of a friend that an officer did this or that, only to find out a lot of the information was left out. Another problem with fielding questions is the difference not only in state statutes, but policies or Standard Operating Procedures from department to department.

It is our policy in handling undocumented workers for traffic violations to establish a valid name, date of birth and address, and cite for the violation. We then let them go. If their identity cannot be determined, then they are arrested. As far as having a vehicle with expired registration and/or inspection sticker, we cite, and tell them not to drive it...we then leave so they can drive it..Sucks....we are looking into the possibility of impounding vehicles that aren't insured, properly registered etc

Yikes!!! You all haven't run into any liability issues with that yet? Such as driver comes back, drives the car...crashes kills family of 4 (God forbid)etc. etc.

Me personally, I'll call someone to pick it up that is valid to drive. If i can't find a reason to impound the vehicle.

That is what I do, and I make sure the officers in my command do the same.

Yes. It's their job to do everything they can to get out of paying for things that are their client's fault. So yeah, sometimes they bash our reports...

Geeez, I spend too much time on the Reg and not enough getting those "emergency" projects done. This is more fun! OOPS....gotta head out to the field....be back in a while.

No secondary weapons where I am. They get irked if we have a pocket knife on us.

Issued Beretta 92F 9MM, but it's in my locker - I bought and carry H&K USP45 full sized, and a S&W mod 640-1 as a backup/off-duty (which I bought too). Then I have a plethora of other goodies in the Yukon while in the field.

Wow! I hope you all don't have a weapon malfunction in the heat of the battle....not even on duty?

Dave that H&K is sweet . You need to get a tac light on that thing.

If they let me carry a tac light on it while in the holster, I would have one by now. But since I have to put it on after I unholster, it is not on my immediate "to-do" list....the 65 engine seems more pressing.
