off road pipe

If I install a off road pipe what do I need to do to pass inspection and keep check engine light from coming on?

I just have my o2 sensors plugged into my offroad h pipe. Didn't throw a code before, but now in my current tune I just have them turned off to pass.

Before you throw the money at one it won't hurt to see if the car throws a code for no cats or not.

I just installed an O/R H pipe 2 weeks ago, I just made my own O2 extenders and did the sparkplug non fowler trick and I have no check engine light but it wont pass the visual part of inspection next year due to no cats but buy that time I should have LT's and a catted shorty H pipe.

Re: off road pipe

depends on what they do for inspection

if they do a visual you wont pass (dunno if its worth installing the cat look a like things you can bolt onto the midpipe or not)

do they use a tail pipe sniffer? If so I doubt it passes

some states run the pcm through a test and if a certain number of items show "not ready" or that theyre turned off, its not gonna pass. Turning off the rear O2s in the tune actually requires like 3 different settings to be changed so you dont get a CEL which is enough to fail it on its own some places.

might just wanna keep your stock midpipe handy and whenever inspection time comes swap em around...sucks but its foolproof

Yeah in NC they do a visual, no sniff test here and it's getting harder to find someone to over look the visual inspection :headbang: but those cat look a likes could work.
