.........an N/A 7.0L V8 Powerplant!

Not sure how much truth there is out there anymore, but this seems legit. Thoughts?

And it can be yours for the low, low price of $80K or so. My dreams of buying another Mustang are out the window. I'm gonna blow $40K on a new Dodge truck. First time I haven't bought a Ford anything in 25 years.

This rumors been around for months. The 6.2L Raptor engine doesn't even fit between the towers so a 7.0 is VERY unlikely.

They need to do a twin eco boost turbo voodoo and call it a day already this has been dragged out too long.

And everyone has a positive theory as to what it will be.

Ford has said that the Voodoo engine will only be in the GT350. Guess we'll see how much truth is in that.

My guess is it'll be an Ecoboost V6 like the GT.

I'd put my money on no damned way.

We're gonna see a forced induction 5.0 or 5.2 ( no flat plane crank)

I don't see them doing a v6 in the top dog mustang anyway but to make the power numbers to top the last gt500 they'd have to turn it up from whats in the GT super car, don't see that happening right now

Agreed. No way a V6 in the top Mustang. They may make a "top Mustang V6 turbo" some day, like in it's own special way. Maybe a SVO, etc. I think I'll be in my 80's before the V8 dies off as the top motor in a Mustang.

Also, I don't think we are going to see the flat plane crank design in anything other than the GT350. I think that was a one-off special just for the GT350 and it's racing heritage.

01yellerCobra 06-28-2017 10:55 AM

I'm sure 2 years ago everyone would've said no way to a V6 in a Ford GT. Ford is pushing the Ecoboost hard.

I do hope I'm wrong however.

True but again, they aren't going to one up the engine in their $400,000 by turning it up more and putting it in a mustang.

Re: Source: Ford’s Next Shelby GT500 Will Be Powered By....

The new GT500 will most likely be a supercharged 5.2L V8 with cross plane plank and direct injection. Will probably share the same transmission with the GT350/R.

There's discussion and a video here. It's been beat to death as to what's under the hod and I have no inside track as to what we'll actually see. I just wish we'd see something. Like in the '60s Ford is getting out powered by the competition. Of course, next year IS the 50th anniversary of the 428 (7.0 L) Cobra Jet.
Just sayin....

I'm going out on a limb with the v8 twin turbo theory. Out of the box thinking creates big buzz.

No way Ford isn't going forced induction V8 on the GT500. Twin turbo cross plane 5.2 I bet. They already said it will make more power than the Hellcat. They hinted at 755 HP

If you mean the CNN interview, did you notice they also didn't say GT500 or Shelby, just "SVT Halo Mustang".

Seems odd for them to refer to SVT again.

The rights to using The Shelby name maybe running out.

Why Ford has renamed it performance arm every few years has always baffled me. Going back to Ford Motorsports in the early 80s, to SVO to SVT and then Ford Performance Group. If Ford wants to absorb Shelby, so be it. If it doesn't, it needs to have shared naming rights, but right now Ford has so many names in its inventory it needs to fire off a few shots across the bow of the bow tie boys (see what I did there?) and the Mopar maniacs, just so they know who the King of the Road really is (did it again).

I think it is great that the three muscle cars Mustang, Camaro, Challenger are in a HP war. It makes for bragging rights and creates technology for lesser level models of the same car. But lets be real, how many of us can really even think about buying a high end version of any of these cars.

Just and FYI, the original 429 didn't fit in between the shock towers of the original car and so they widened the front of the car. Think wide body Boss 429/GT500/Cobra or whatever it's gonna be called. BTW, you guys are assuming either/or. What if Ford makes both a boosted 5.2 and a N/A 7.0?? :27:

Ford will be lucky if they sell a couple thousand of the Shelby at a ridiculous high price. No way they're gonna build two engines for that car. Makes no economical sense. That's a thing of the past.

Nope didn't mean two engines for the same car. Ford still has to build like 5 more specialty cars before 2020. Maybe a Cobra and a Mach 1 or a Boss 9 and a GT500, or.......

A S/C 5.2 CPC will most likely be one of them, but you gotta admit that a 5.2 will twin snails would be that much cooler! And one last hoorah before succumbing to the environazi's in the form of a 7L N/A V-8 would be unreal! Minds would blow all through the car enthusiast community. Hopefully we'll find out soon.

Whatever the case, Ford is building that 7 liter and I can guarandamntee you that someone will find a way to shoehorn that sumbitch into a mustang very soon after it's release.

Taken from post #11:

"We took a tour of Watson Racing last week on a trip to Dearborn...

I notice a few of you have mentioned the Trinity. The bombshell of the trip came when I heard the Romeo engine plant was closed off to tours because the plant was working on Voodoo and a NEW big block to replace the 5.8 -and said as if that information was just common knowledge."

If a Mach 1 or GT500 does not hit soon I may just jump the fence and pick up a HellCat. (if the bonus at work comes as the CEO is eluding to, it will require this)
