Engine shut off
Was going down the highway at 70mph and the engine shut off. I pull it over to the side of the road and tried to start the car. It acted like it wanted to start but sputtered and quit. So a 30 mile tow to home and here she sits in the driveway. I mess with it and hear the pump prime and such so I try and start it. Started like nothing was ever wrong! What the hell? I am thinking it is possible that the pump might be on its way out. I replaced the filter last summer.

Re: Engine shut off
what mods are done to the car and how many miles on it

72000 on the ticker. Engine is stock. I ran a code reader no codes came up. Check engine light didn't come on during the problem either.

Re: Engine shut off
try cleaning mass airflow sensor and idle air control valve also if ur car is a stick did it die when you pushed clutch in or under throttle

Re: Engine shut off
Only by experience, check the ground behind the passenger side headlight. It is a very long shot but worth checking. This happened to me about a year ago.

Re: Engine shut off
Same situation happened to me and it was the fuel pump plug/clip by the gas tank wasn't plugged together all of the way. It was making contact at times and not at others.

Its a 5 speed it was set on cruise. I am going to clean sensors check plugs main ground and fuel pump connections. Weird that it runs like no problem now. Kinda hard to troubleshoot.

Not sure about the turn signal but my headlight flickered, this is how I found it.

Re: Engine shut off
check the fuel pressure as the pump going out is the most logical problem.

Re: Engine shut off
Dont mean to seal your tread OP, but didnt want to post the same type.
I was driving and coming to a stop car died(first time a 96-98 Cobra reved on me and then my car died...:SMASH:). did it twice today both times started right back up... Ive read it could be the IAC or the screen not being there? |
Re: Engine shut off
Never updated the fix. The pump was the culprit...luckily I was home this time. Fuel pump change in the driveway was a PITA!
