Re: low mile machs

I sure am glad that so many original Mach 1 owners decided to absolutely baby and rarely drive their Machs. It is amazing how many recent owners of used Mach 1s here have lucked out with very low mileage cars.

Bought my 2004 Azure Blue Mach 1 3 weeks ago with 15.5k on it.
When i bought my 2000 GT in 2003 it had 48k on it, when i traded it in on the Mach 1 it had 62k on it.14k in 6 years.
I don't go out of my way to not put a lot of miles on my cars, that is just the way it works out.

Totally agree with you guys who say these things were meant to be driven. I just can't understand the logic of buying a performance car and treating it like a knick knick. What do you do when you want to have some fun, go out to the garage and stare at it? Maybe they're thinking that 20-30 years down the road they'll have something special? I'd rather have one that I got to enjoy and then restore it and do it all over again.
It is pretty cool for someone looking to get into one however, as it's easy to score a low milage babied one.

The thing is that when someone holds a car for that long and it doesn't see rain, elements, etc. it is "neat."

Ya, I think it is cool to see someone who is the original owner of an '69 Mustang that has babied the hell out of it. It is simply "neat" or "cool." To be honest nowadays I would rather see a raced out fastback on Hoosier R6's because I know it has been used.

Re: low mile machs

Fortunately for people like me, who bagged a "babied" Mach 1, most original owners of these Mach 1s don't hold onto them for "life". Either limited space in the driveway/garage, the temptation to get something else, or changing family needs, tend to put those wonderfully kept Machs back on the market. Even with good intentions, it is hard to hold onto a car for a long time. Those that did, probably had a very good place to store it and other cars to use while the babied car was avoiding any bad weather and excess mileage.

It does seem like quite a few original Mach 1 owners tended to use their cars sparingly and treated them very, very well. For that I am very thankful.

I agree, but if I need another Mach one day, I'm know where I'm going to buy my next one. Right here. Where the preserved ones are...... I feel like a HYPOCRITE.

Re: low mile machs

I wonder if it's got something to do with the average age of the owners? It seems like a lot of them are in their 40s. Maybe they had to wait a while to get the type of car that they wanted (rather than some "practical" family car) and they just go a little overboard on the taking good care of it thing?

What seems really weird to me though, is the guy who mods it and still doesn't drive it. I guess if it's just bolt ons it's nothing to return it to stock, but why bother making it quicker if you don't drive it?

Me too..... I've been driving my 'new' Mach for a bit over a month now.
It turned over to 10,000 mi on 8/2.
I can guarantee that I'll double that number in a year or so!! :smokin:

(unless it gets traded in for an '08 Bullitt.....) :claus:

Sheesh...I get better milage from the Mach than I do my Toyota Tacoma...what's up w/ that? :12:

Mine has just over 10K and has never seen rain. That is tough with it living in the Seattle area.

My TR 2003, has 7200 miles on it. I am tired of not using it as much as I would like, at my age 78, I figure I better start using it before one of us passes into "It's too late"

I think we have cruised together. Did you go to the Harpoon Brewery last season?

Makes sense to me. I'm nearly 60 and using my Mach 1 more in the winter than I did my 96 Z-28. NOT in snow or salt, but every time the roads are basically clear. Use it while you've got it. Enjoy it....don't save the enjoyment for the next person. Let's just hope we age as gracefully as our pampered Mach 1s.

Two beautiful Mach 1s. I like the orange (too bad about your accident), but yellow is such a sharp looking color in a Mach 1. I do prefer my zinc yellow, but would have been darn happy with a screaming yellow one like yours too.
