Quarter panel Louvers - Available now!

So I found somebody to make some quarter window Louvers for the Mach. Just got the prototype in, I will post pictures today. Just want to see if there is any interest in getting some louvers for our Machs.

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

Are you talking FENDER (1/4 PANEL) as you stated, or 1/4 WINDOW louvers?

Does it have a smooth or rough finish. Are they paintable?? Also, are there any slot cutouts in the louvers??

Do they apply with double sided tape?

Would help if you show better pictures with louvers off the car showing both sides.

Best looking set I've seen to date for our body style. More pics!!!

warpony 03-11-2012 06:52 PM

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

At the moment it's only a prototype. The gentleman that's making them said he can have them done in a smooth abs finish. The slats are cut out. As soon as I get all the feed back to him he will start to make them. Not sure on price or anything yet, but I will let him know that he can sell several of them right away and maybe we can work out some discount for the registry. So keep the comments coming so we can get a product that will look good and have our touches to it.

They look good, thanks for taking the lead on this project and bringing it to the forum!

Since they are still pre-production, here is what I’d like to see in the final design.

The front edge and the top match and follow the shape of the car perfectly. The bottom and the rear edges do not. Rather than keep each louver perfectly symmetrical, modify each louver’s shape slightly so that they extend and match the lower and rear edge of the body lines.

Also, instead of that smooth edge all around the louver, how about an edge that looks like more like a rail? (for a finished, high end look)

And I agree; a smoother paintable finish would be preferable, so they look more like aluminum louvers.

Just my humble opinion... thanks again!

I do like them but my one concern would be that being they are slatted that going at a descent speed at 65-75 mph that they might come undone and fly off.

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

I received a response from the guy that's making the quarter panel louvers. This is what he sent.

"The design is supposed to slide beneath the sail panel a bit to lock it in place. As far as the material I can do one in the textured ABS (what was shipped) or smooth ABS plastic that you can paint. Either way the material is stable and up to 220 degrees, and is impact resistant. As for the drainage I recommend leaving a few gaps along the bottom edge trim tape for water drainage.....thats all thats really needed. As for the design I'm thinking of pulling the bottom edge lower to keep it more level with the bottom edge. The last one farthest back looks a bit off too but I would like your opinion as well as anyone you might know that would be interested."

I will be emailing him this evening with all your comments and recommendations so he can start a production on these quarter panel louvers. I will also find out how much these louvers will cost.

Here is an update on the louvers....I made contact with the maker today and he is sending me a finish set in a smooth ABS finish. I will be posting pictures on here as soon as they arrive.
I have already asked him to give registry members a discount. I am waiting for a reply and will keep everyone posted.

Still waiting on the finish set to come in. The maker has agreed to give the registry members a discount. It's going to come around $88 plus shipping and handling. As soon as I post the pictures I will post his info on here and we can come up with some kind of code so that he knows that a registry member is purchasing them.

Just got the smooth set in. There are a couple of issues with the fit right now, so the maker and I are working on them. I'm going to get them sanded and painted so that I can get them fitting right and then send a new pattern for the fit. I will post pictures as soon as they come back. I just want to make sure that we all get something that fits right and looks good.

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

I have a set of the originals that we're available several years ago but that
aside isn't anyone concerned about wind getting behind through those slats
and loosening the louvers because of high speed wind? Just a thought.

Sounds great. Can you also do a wind test...drive about 120-150 mph and see if they come off!! ;)

+1 interested. I know they will decrease visibility, but do you know if you can still see anything out of the quarter window with them on? I'd hate to get in a wreck because some aesthetic mod I did covered up my blind spot.

That shouldn't be a problem if your side mirrors are adjusted correctly. I don't think I've ever looked out of my quarter window while driving.

They can be a pain in the a$$ when backing out of a parking spot and you can't see out of that quarter window.

I love the sail panel emblems. I assume they are 69 emblems. Looks awesome. I was thinking of putting the 4.6 High Performance emblems where the 40th embelms are and moving them to the sail panels. I like the 69 emblems better. Did you apply with 3M tape or do they come with studs??

You would apply them with 3M tape.

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

Yummy. Those are nice. I had a similar design like that cut in my 07 and it worked perfectly fine.

Mine made rattling noises at high speed lol. But the visibility was great, you can still see the blind spot.

I would definitely be interested in a pair. I have a black car so I wouldn't have to paint it like you guys mwuahahahaha.

Smith 04-23-2012 01:05 PM

Re: Quarter panel Louvers

Are these available yet?? I heard they were doing some tweaking to get them to fit correctly. I have a black Mach, but I would prefer the paintable set to match the paint rather than just the rough flat black.

Thanks. I did use 3M tape and never had a problem with them coming off. I had them 5 years now.
