Finally got my FR500 cams installed by MPH. I think they are perfect for the mach. Just a hint of a lope and make good power. Wish the mach came with these cams.

Put down 320hp to the wheels. I added JBA midlength hearders, FR500 cams and tuned by modular powerhouse in GA.

Seems low for your mods, what's the tq? The hp should be 330+ with those cams and headers.

Those are good numbers for an automatic but for a 5 speed are quite low.

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

The hp was 320.19 at about 6k rpm. Torque was 323.68 at 4900rpm. Air fuel was steady at about 13. It was tuned with xcal 2 on a dynojet. No head or intake porting was done.

So it was tuned with SCT software on a dynojet dyno? If so, those numbers are extremely low. 340 would be more like it.

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

So you think there is about 20hp left in it? What about the torque? Does that look about right? It was conservative tune for a street car not a track brawler as it has never seen a track. I doubt it matters much but it has heavy @ss 18inch rims and 315 tires. The stock wheel tire combo is obviously lighter on the car as I usually switch to the stockers for the winter and it feels a ton faster.

There is defintely more power to be had. Were the cams degreed? A Mach engine with 96-98 intake cams is in the 340rwhp range and your FR cams have more duration and lift. A bone stock bolt on engine can make as much as yours is putting down.

There is no mention of a cold-air intake. Maybe some restrictions there, perhaps?

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

I would ask your builder what he degreed the cams at... Mine were installed at 109 centerline like were recommended and you see where my power is at.

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

I will check into the degree question and yes no CAI due to steeda strut tower brace, only a drop in K&N. I think he dynoed it with a stock gear setting also since he had to change it to my actual 410 while I was picking it up after the tune. Would that or the heavy 18" rims/tires be a factor to the numbers at all? There is a huge difference when I switch to the stock wheels/tires at least in SOP feel.

A K&N with the stock airbox will make very close to what a CAI will.

I dynoed mine with 18" wheels and I'm running 4.10 gears as well

I agree though, with my cobra r 17X10.5's with mickey thompsons on there it feels faster too, but thats mainly becuase I'm actually getting traction haha

Yes, the car with heavier 18in rims will dyno lower than with lighter rims.

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

The cams were set up according to specs. A little bit of an excuse but the tuner said their dyno always shows lower numbers than most. I will get it retuned with the next mod. Yet another excuse to do something else to the car.

Been a while but here was the dyno sheet from the tune. Maybe it will give some insight.

I know this is old but im thinking about these for my daily driver with mods in my sig and wondering how it is just cruising around? Also how much did it cost you for install and tune if you dont mind me asking because CJ Pony Parts has the kit for 850 bucks thats complete with cams, vavles, springs, valve seals and followers

Re: Ford Racing Cams Installed - WOW!!!!!

I ran these cams for about 30K miles in my daily driver. Their drivability is just like stock cams. They have a mild lopw at idle.

That's the standard price for them now. You're better off getting some custom grinds with more duration anyway. The FR cams are too darn mild.
