Re: NASCAR thread

They've been working at Daytona to adjust the spoiler and whatever restrictor plate they'll be making work on the new FI engines to break up the tandem drafts. It'll be interesting to see in a few months what they've managed to come up with. The two car trains don't make for exciting racing to watch, but I'm sure it's no less than sheer terror for the drivers.

Re: NASCAR thread

All cars are restricted in power, the teams draft to get speed, without it, we would be watching cars going on a 2.5 mile track at 140mph... The tandem drafting, imo, is more exciting than the huge line drafts. I would love the restrictor plates to be removed, nascar has proved on several incidents that the cars are INCREDIBLY safe :)

You mean when they are airborne in the catch fence lol?

They were running over 200mph at Daytona with single cars in the test.

Just saw it on ESPN. Wow! His circumstances when he 'left' Roush weren't much better. Wonder if anyone will bring him on board? Maybe he and Kyle should form their own 'Anger Management' team?

2 shrubs in one pot.
AT least Roger has a set.
Too bad Roush already has one oil sponsor,
Kenseth and Ragan need sponsorship.

It sucks to see such behavior out of a former champion. This might be a second chance for Sam Hornish. He seems like a really good guy. :orange:

Maybe Joe can fire shrub and really make this a good week. The formal announcement should be tomorrow and he will probably have another ride before the new year. Both of the Busch brothers are exceptional drivers; if they didn't have mental problems they could be great.

I bet Shells kicking themselves for dropping Harvick. I agree...Gibbs needs to grow a set now. Those idiots are going nowhere in this sport acting like brats.

Wow... I could have seen Joe Gibbs kicking Kyle, but Kurt from Penske? Nothing is formal until officially announced, remember in July when everyone saying it was "confirmed" Edwards would be going to Gibbs? I'll wait for the official annoucement, I can see him replacing Vickers in Team redbull though...

I think team redbull is fully disbanding at the end of the year unless someone buys the team and all of its assets. Redbull will no longer be a sponsor in NASCAR unless I missed a new announcement.

Just because he had issues with Keslowski makes him an a**hole? He has proven to be probably the most calm person in the sport. He didn't trash talk like stewart, he didn't make threats like vickers/busches. Everyone gets ticked off, if someone sent me into a fence at 200mph, I'd be pretty p*ssed off too!

Kesolowski was racing him like an a**hole, Carl did back. Carl admitted in a post race interview on that. And what Brad did to carl at Dega couldn't have killed carl? I know for a fact FANS actually got injuryed in that incident because of kesolowski.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2PZicO2P8Q
Watch at 2:50. The media likes to make Carl look like the bad guy because NASCAR HATES Roush, that has been proven time and time again. I watched that race, a few laps earlier is shown at 3:29 in the video, if you race Carl dirty, he will back, same with the Kenesth/Vickers incident. Don't call the kettle black, Brad has dumped more drivers to win in his day than carl has EVER dumped.

Is it still tandem nut to butt racing? I won't watch or go to Daytona or Talladega again until they find a better way to race.

Rice_slayer 02-12-2012 05:17 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

They banned all driver communications, reduced rad size, cars are still doing it. The only way to fix it is NO RESTRICTOR PLATES. Personally, I prefer Tandem over the huge 20+ car trains, at least with tandems the cars are spread out more.

Side note, BUD SHOOTOUT ON SATURDAY!!! Who else is ready for some left turns again, Edwards needs redemption!

Re: NASCAR thread

I just didn't like the fact that 1 car loses it, half the field is gone. And that it doesn't matter if you run first all race, everyone will *cut you out* on the last lap. All opinions though, restrictor plate racing sucks, the cars are safe enough now that they could handle it without restrictors. If they are that worried about speed, racing with smaller V8s (302/305 vs the 350/351).

Robert Yates tried a smaller engine back in the early 90's.
The guy is a genius.
There was a MAXIMUM displacement rule, but no minimum.
So he built some 310 CID motors and used the same plate as the 358 CID,
and made more power with the smaller motor.
Naturally, since it was a Ford team, (Davey Allison driving)
ASSCAR immediately changed the rules to a minimum 355 CID rule.
Just like the new cooling system rule,
it was meant to hurt the Fords.
One superior part of the FR9 engine was the cooling system.
ASSCAR and Brian "the pansy" France would have none of that.

They have a hate on for Ford for some unknown reason. Edwards SHOULD have won last year, I rewatched the race last night, amazing how the cars literally cleared a path for stewart at the end but gave edwards a hard time. Oh well, Edwards will get them this year!!

What ever it is, Ill watch. My tickets for martinsville should be here anytime. We are renting a house in near Mooresville for the Coke 600 at Charlotte and we will probaly go to the World of Outlaws race on friday down there. We have start/finish line seats for both martinsville and the Charlotte cup races. Charlottle Motor Speedway is an Awesome Facility if youve never been there, go. Ill probably go to Richmond as well. I got NASCAR fever. :gears:

Martinsville was a great track because everything is within very short walking distance. We were about 100 yards or so from the track to our camping spot. Definitely the most hillbilly track I've been to.

Gordon is such an idiot. If he blocks you, it's ok. If you block him he either wrecks you or whines about being blocked after the race. I saw that wreck coming a mile away.

Rice_slayer 02-18-2012 10:21 PM

Re: NASCAR thread

Gordon has always been a cry baby, one of the reasons I have no respect for him. He b*tches about EVERYTHING. I hate pack racing, I'm in between with tandem, why can't we have normal racing on dega/daytona like at tracks like charlotte/atlanta/vegas etc etc.

If the 500 is like the Bud Shootout I'll definitely watch it. I thought it was a good race. I like the freight train racing, but I've only been following Nascar since 1996, so I never saw non-restrictor plate in the 70's and 80's. I only watched the Indy 500 back then.

Agreed. The kid is an amazing driver, too bad he is such an a**hole, maybe that can change, but I doubt it. And restrictor plates suck. The cars are plenty safe now that they don't need them. I like speedweeks and the Daytona 500, but super speedway racing needs to go back to the ways of the 70/80s, where raw HP really won the race. Makes sense though, Ford made the most, so nascar had to limit that...
