Yes, this is what I have read as well, mine was used and I had it 'cleaned up'. Figured it was rumored to be stronger, for the money it was a good durability upgrade, I will never reach that HP level.

Good looking build man. hoping to start mine as soon as i get the money for parts and ect. I actually found a teksid block (whole engine actually) for 400 bucks. had a blown piston but everything is still in good shape other than that piston skirt is gone and the connecting rod is bent, but still got the forged crank, heads, 98 cobra cams, and a few other parts for cheap. How much compression are you looking to make with those flat tops? and how much boost eventually? I am looking to go the same route and want to see how it turns out for you.

Thanks man. **** good deal on that engine if you ask me. As for compression I'm thinking it should be around 10.5-10.8 with the flat tops. And i plan on pushing 11-12 lbs of boost with the P1. If the car doesnt make 600hp with P1 I'll upgrade to the D1.

Re: Starting my Build

I gotta feeling with that HP number you are looking at, upgrade to D1 and be done with it, that is really pushing a P1 isn't it?? (I have been wrong in the past, present AND future!!):notsure:

Re: Starting my Build

Yea, i didnt have the money to spend but as soon as he said 400 i figured food wasnt necessary for a while. haha. So only 10.5:1? did you have the block decked? or the heads decked? cause if you did your looking at a bit more. i was thinking of doing that but getting the heads mildly ported so it would be about 11:1 or so. not sure how much hp i wanna make yet. im still thinking about selling a crank and a set of heads to buy a stroker kit.... :gears:

Ive seen a couple guys push their P1 to 13psi before. And ya 600hp with a P1 sounds d@mn near impossible but I'm hoping the E-85 and the High compression will get me there

Re: Starting my Build

Looking forward to pics! Sounds like a solid setup. Good call going to 3.73s.

Re: Starting my Build

Sounds like a good low 11 second setup. Maybe 9s with some juice. My bro in law is doing a identical setup as yours with his coupe. Except he's doing a 200 shot.

Post some pics or text me some.

After doing some reading I'll be switching to a 3 bolt timing cover. My CF hydro dipped timing cover will be for sale soon if anyone is interested.

Has someone been following DSG's issue with belt slip and the Thumper?? I enjoy reading the updates, coming together well.

SuperMach1 05-24-2014 05:36 PM

Re: Starting my Build

Yeah lol. I've read a few other threads over on Svt too. Seems like some people are really having problems with the single bolt tensioner. I'll be selling my Thump tensioner soon also.

Re: Starting my Build

Quick question guys. Do I need a different procharger bracket for the 3 bolt timing cover?

SuperMach1 07-20-2014 04:38 PM

Re: Starting my Build

What is an EMP water pump? (I may be missing the obvious here)

SuperMach1 07-23-2014 05:50 PM

Re: Starting my Build
