Re: Trivia for today
No.
Yes. Sort of... The copyright for the Mustang name as it assigned to the bicyle manufacturer ran out on Dec. 31,1978. A very few early '79 Mustangs were produced with the T-5 designation, but most carried the Mustang name plate. The Boss 302 had the upgraded shock towers as did '69 and '70 Shelby GT-350's. |

For today; What was the date of Job #1 for the '65 (OK, 64 1/2) Mustang? Bonus; what was the date the 1,000,000th Mustang was built? Who got the 1,000,001st Mustang? :borg:

Re: Trivia for today
I'll answer the first one , and leave the rest for others.
Job #1 was finished March 9, 1964. |

Re: Trivia for today
The 1,000,000th Mustang was built on Feb. 23, 1966. That is less than two years after Job#1 rolled off the line. The #1,000,001 Mustang was presented to Airline Capt. Stanley Tucker, the same person who purchased the very first Mustang...not that it was supposed to be sold. He gave it back in trade for the '66... :borg:

Re: Trivia for today
I remember the story of capt. Tucker. Pretty interesting.
Trivia - From the interior of a 65 (non-pony), how can you varify if it is a factory GT, withough lifting the rear seat too look for exhaust hangers? |
Re: Trivia for today
The car would have a five gauge cluster with no wood grain and the 'eyebrow' trim only goes on the upper half of the gauge cluster. On a '66 the trim is a full pair of concentric lines that surround the entire gauge pod, and on an Interior Decor car, the facing would have a wood grain applique. The non-GT car would only have the full width speedo and twin flanking gauges... :borg:

Re: Trivia for today
I seem to remember something about the dash opening having a factory done clearance for the speedometer head that isn't present in non-GT cars. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Age is creeping up fast.

You are correct sir. |

Although you have made some very nice points. That will not varify a factory GT. It will only show what should be on a GT. Which is common for restoration jobs. |
Re: Trivia for today
You mean there are people out there making fake GT's and passing them off as real? I am shocked...OK, maybe not. But I know that the only other tell for a real GT is the holes punched from the factory for the fog lamps...but no one would try to replicate those...would they?(Besides, you can't see them from inside the car...unless there's no hood...or motor...) :borg:

Re: Trivia for today
Name at least 3 differences between the 1964.5 and 1965 Mustang body sheetmetal. The fact that a fastback was introduced doesn't count. :)

punched correct.....a resto. GT would be drilled. You can tell a difference. But you can also tell by the exhaust hangers. Aftermarket dual exhaust kits don't mount the same. But you have to remove the back seat to double check. You can also tell by the way the brake line was ran and mounted. The single exhaust left room for brake line routing so it is ran differently. But that only dictates dual exhaust, not a GT. |

Did they offer rocker panels for 64.5? Coincidentally, that is another way to see if it is a GT or not. Gt's did not have rocker moldings or side "chrome" accents. |
Re: Trivia for today
1) hood difference as noted by ponygt65
2) the headlight buckets that go with the non-rolled lip hood 3) the radiator core support had louvers by the battery others? |
Re: Trivia for today
That's the only three sheet metal differences I am aware of, as well. There is also a 1/4 inch difference between the lenghts of the "MUSTANG" fender lettering, with the '65 being right at 5", and about 4 3/4" on the 64 1/2. :borg:

Re: Trivia for today
For today; starting in '68 Shelby used aftermarket driving lights on the Shelby Mustangs. This continued for '69 as well as '70. What two makers of lights were used? Bonus; which one of these brands would resurface later as an OE fog light on which Mustangs and when? :borg:
