This was a sad piece of news I woke up to this morning. A true hero and aviation pioneer, there will never be the likes of his kind again, as with so many of his generation.

I am so massively disappointed that the reporter who wrote this piece obviously doesn't know the difference between an F-15 (high performance and timeless air superiority fighter jet) and an X-15 (ultra high performance rocket powered test vehicle that got many pilots their astronauts wings).

My god-son was born on 7 Dec, he just turned 4 and I feel that it is my duty to teach him about this date.
It is sad the lack on knowledge of history we are seeing today and a lot of that is due to what is being taught in school and at home.

I heard today from my local news that he actually went back to fly in Viet-Nam. Anyone know if this is true? I've also heard that he flew the X-15 to mach 8...
