Hee hee hee, Socal!! Well, I was thinking a Saturday, maybe the second weekend in December. No calendar in front of me, dunno the date. But what would be a good spot, close to Xmas shopping places (to keep those in the passenger seat happy!), and good drivin? Coast run to Simi or so? Whatcha think? Oh, and gotta get pics for our east coast bretheren....

Considering I won't have a passenger, rather the wife will be driving the modded 98 GT, I think a mountain run would be in order. The date sounds good, but I'm thinking more like the "Rim of the World Drive". There are quite a few good "Mom and Pop" restaurants for eating lunch, and there are any number of photo oportunities, with mountains and valleys in the background.

For those not familiar with that drive, it starts as you're going up to Big Bear on the 330. When you arrive in Running Springs, hang a left on the 18 towards Lake Arrowhead. Just follow the 18 all the way back into San Bernadino.
The drive starts out slow, with lots of switchbacks, and towards the end, it opens up to some high-speed turns. Trust me, it's a load of fun. Total trip time: 1.5 hours from the entrance of the 330 until the bottom once again.

Another possibility is to run up to Mount Laguna, snap some pics with the Imperial Valley (the entire valley) in the background, and follow the road up to Julian, stop for some pie, and continue to Santa Ysabel. Take a right on the 78, until you reach the 76. Take a right on the S2, follow that up to Palomar Mountain. Snap a few more pics with Pala in the background, and continue on. Total trip time: 3 hours

If you all want, I can organize the trip, pic the places to meet up, and lead the way (set the pace). ?

Hey, No Control...Sounds like you have the right ideas!!! The Big Bear thing sounds great, as we can make it a 2 day thing. I'd like to stay in a cabin the night before (to keep the immediate supervisor happy!), then hit the road. Got a friend at work who owns a slightly modded 03 snake. He'd like to go too. Let's do it on Saturday, 12/13/03. If it rains/snows, we can always do it a week later, and not interfere with Xmas.

The 13th sounds as though it's the best date. At least for me. I'll be out to sea for a few days, so if anyone has any questions, suggestions, or what-not's, email me at:
walsht@preble.navy.mil

Let's plan on two different routes (depending on weather). If it's snowing, let's meet at Qual Comm Stadium on the 13th at around 10:00am. If it's looks as though it's going to be a bright sunny day, let's meet at the Mobile Station off of HWY 76 (Pala exit) at around the same time.

If anyone has any better suggestions for a meeting place, email me at the above address, and we'll get it in.

Suggested items to bring:

FRS radios
Camera (I'll have my digital with plenty of disks)

Ok. Just found out from my club (Beach Cities Mustang Club) about a run on the 14th (anyone with a Mustang invited!). It will start at Edelbrock in Torrance and end around Magnaflow. We will be raffling off dyno pulls at Magnaflow. Lots of cool stuff, with toys to be donated and proceeds to go to firefighter relief and to the families of the fire victims. I'll find out more about this, as it is a Mustang gathering. Lotsa Machs will be there. More as I get it.

I'm looking forward to getting on the dyno at Magnaflow, and to meeting the folks at Edelbrock. I need their stuff for my '65 Stang.

And I agree, this should be moved to the West Coast area. I'll email Dave and have him move it.

OK, the rim is no good due to the fires and all. I've been up wildcat/Julian since the fires down here, and the roads are fine. Let's try for the 13th, 10:00am in the Belmont Park parking lot. I'll be in my Black, my wife will more than likely be in the 98 balck/black and I'll have at least 2 other friends with me, a blue 02 and a white 95 Cobra.

Like I said, bring some drinks, cameras and if you have them, FRS radios. I've got a few, but not enough to really go around (3 pairs).

Route will be:

I8 to Sunshine HWY
Sunshine HWY to Laguna Mt. (pics)
Laguna to Cuyamaca, and then to Julian for some pie!
Julian to Santa Ysabel
Santa Ysabel to Lake Henshaw (HWY 76)
S2 up to Pala Mt. (more pics)
S2 down to Hwy 76.
HWY 76 to I15
I15 to San Diego.

I'll do the drive once before that weekend, just to make sure everything is alright, and the roads (once again) are safe.

Disclaimer: This will not be a high-speed event. Only spirited (speed governed) driving will be tolerated! The intent is to have fun, meet fellow Mach/Mustang owners, and to take some great pictures with you and your car (Calendar type shots). By no means, will I be responsible for any actions of either you or other drivers, be they in the group, or other.

See all of you there!!!!:HOPPY:
