just got this e-mail and wanted to know if anyone has any further info on it.

"New York State started a pilot program
upstate north of Albany on the Northway to
catch speeders using the E-Z Pass system.
Recording devices were installed at intervals
along the highway. Once an E-Z Pass equipped vehicle passes, the device registers
the account number and the time. Same is
again registered at the next “check-point”.
Based upon the distance between the
register points and the posted speed limit, the state
is sending speeding tickets in the mail to the guilty persons.

Because every driver did/does not have E-Z
Pass, the State was 'perplexed' as what to do to
impose the system state-wide. The solution
has now been found. Soon all new vehicle
registration stickers will have a metal strip
or chip imbedded in them. This will take
the place of the E-Z Pass system as stated
above. When a vehicle passes the registering
device, the strip will relay all the information.

This is not fictional. New York State
contracted with VERIZON to install the
system. The system has already been
installed and the entire Bronx River Parkway
in Westchester County has been 'wired' for
when the new system begins. Once the
State makes the new program public and
advises all motorists of the potential for
numerous speeding tickets, it will also
reveal that the system has already been
installed.

Another reason that will be given for the
new system’s installation is to enable the authorities to track
stolen vehicles, to trace kidnap victims, to
monitor and trace suspected criminals and
terrorists, etc.

BIG BROTHER IS ALIVE AND WELL.

Pass this along to every one you know."

wouldn't put it past local Gestapo to do something like this,i know that vehicle registration and inspection are already tracked by ez pass. what do you think?

cameras,"black boxes" in new vehicles, computer chip "tattle tails", and a police force larger than some 3rd world countries. I love new York lol

Howdy!

Since I use EZ Pass on the Thruway quite a bit and would be receiving quite a few tickets myself if this were true, I did some online research through About.com and it appears to be false according to these two articles:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/automobiles/a/ez_pass.htm

http://buffalonews.typepad.com/politics_now/2007/11/urban-myth-alon.html

Let's hope they never use EZ Pass for anything beyond convenient toll payment!

Hey
I work for NYSDOT and this is total BS.

first of all for a cop to give a ticket in nys he must witness the infraction

we do have some red light cams but EVERY single installation of one must be approved in the state senate
in the form of a bill

so there would have to be a seperate bill in the senate for
every reciever installed

The EZ passes are being used to monitor traffic flow only

What they are installing is the back bone of a system that will be out in 2010 its call VII and what it will do is set up ad hoc networks with RF signals so cars will be able to talk to each other also traffic lights also with the use of gps suggest less congested routes to handle traffic overflow

its going to be able to give real time traffic data directly to you in your car

the system will also be set up to be used a collision avoidance for instance if you are at a intersection and you have the green light but there is a car approching the light at 50 mph and he is going to run the light

the system will be tell you that there is a car approching the light and possible going to run the light...

Where is George Orwell?

I have a friend who is a mechanic that told me once that when OBD3, 4, and 5 come down the pipe there will be sensors along the roadway that will be able to communicate with the vehicles and advise of any emissions related codes that the vehicle may have tripped...
