I just learned that these will fit in the back of the Mustang stock rim. Has anyone tried these yet or has a pic of them? This would give the best of both worlds and the prices aren't so bad.

They will fit on a 17X9 Mustang wheel, like 03 Cobra or 95 R wheel, or various replica wheels, way too wide for a 17X8 Mach 1 or other Mustang 17X8 Mustang wheel like 17X8 Cobra or 17X8 GT.

However, even though they will fit on 17X9 wheel, Nitto is only one I know who actually approves the 17X9 285X40X17 combo with their 555 series tire. Usually (most tire manufactures) only approve and recomend up to a 275X40X17 on 17X9 wheel.

Well I heard one guy say that the 285s will fit but just have a wider stance in a 9 inch. So I was just curious if anyone has tried that yet. I take it 275 should fit nicely on a stock rim?

You should go to a site like Tire rack.com or discount tires direct and look at the specifications on tires.
Most tire companies don't authorize 275's on a 8" wheel due to legal liabilities. Sidewall roll and sudden deflation can occur when the tire is pushed hard in a corner and thats exactly when you don't want the tire to come off the rim.
Can you get it to fit? sure! Is it safe? Not according to the tire company. Saving a few dollars on rims isn't really worth my life, so I bought 17x9's rims.
I had a friend with 17 x 9's on his T.A. The tire store manager talked him into putting Nitto DR's 315's on them. They looked really tuff until he hit a pot hole and popped the seal on the tire and trashed his wheel.
Something to think about.
