It is great to hear the tire smoking stories of "Post chip" modifications... but does anyone have 1/4 mile times before and after a chip? Is it really worth it or will I simply have the ability to chirp the tires in third?

*NOT INTENDED AS A FLAME OR ACT OF AROGANCE AT ALL BUT...*
you don't need a chip to chirp third,
I can do it on my stock mach 1, I can do it even more now with the B&M Ripper shifter
heck my friend can do it on a stock 02 GT, then again I do concider him somewhat of a driving god since me pulled a 13.7xx in a 02 GT, his only mods was a K&N filter in the stock housing.
again this is not a flame, but I think with practice we should all chirp 3rd no probs
now if you ment light em up in third then yes by all means I want those numbers too =) heheheh

I can easily chirp going into third and this is my first stick.
With out the diablo chip i ran a 13.6 @103mph.
With the diablo chip 13.3 @106mph
It was over 90deg and humid with the two run's that's why the time's suck. But still .3 and 3mph faster just with a chip.Get one you will love it..:HOPPY: I paid $350 for my chip custome tune & 3 dyno run's not bad huh?

GotMach and MustangMat are ASSUMING that we all have 5-speeeds. Show me an automatic Mach that gets rubber in third and I'll show you a modified mach. Thanks for the actual reply to my question 007, I appreciate it.

If you wanted that kind of response you shouldn't have ASSUMED that we all knew you had a automatic. fair enough?

Everyone...say this real fast:
"you don't need a chip to chirp third" at least 10 times, then smile...you're in a Mach Registry Forum.

Yeh, I've actually been able to break the tires shifting into 4th. With someone else in the car, no less. I was driving with my uncle, who appreciates a fast car, and while showing him what the Mach could do, BAM!! Chirp into 4th. Even I was a little surprised. And my uncle, well.... the only he could say was "Congradulations". I think he likes it.:D

I've never gone fast enough to try and chirp into 4th.
I remember somebody saying they chirped going into 5th one time. That I don't believe.
One thing I have noticed is that the serp belt sounds kinda like a chirped tire whenever it slips.

How is that working out for you? My shop told me to never let Diablo do any custom tuning. They said they have had all kinds of problems with pinging and knocking after the Diablo tune. The chip I had burnt only did the speed cal, harder shifts, raise rev limiter, and remove top speed limiter.

I remember chirping the tires going into 4th, then I went out and bought new tires.:D
Sorry I have no info on the chip. Still not convinced to buy one without a power adder.

If your goal is to achieve a better balance, and performance output from your Mach, the I'd say a chip + some other mods will definitely get you to that goal.
However, if you goal is to chirp third, and you have an automatic tranny, try to achieve this mechanically, and not electronically. I'd invest in a Street Terminator Valve Body from Lentech, along with other Torque and HP-enhancing mods.......you can still do a chip, but make sure the line pressure is left stock, because inevitably, as time goes by, your clutches, pumps, and other tranny internals will not be too happy. The aftermarket valve body will actually INCREASE the life of your tranny, due to the shortened duration of your clutch slippage.
I could chirp 3rd all day long in good weather when I had my Lightning. My chip had the line pressure at stock levels, and I had an aftermarket valve body from one of the country's most reputable Tranny builder, Gregg Evans.

How streetable is the new Lentech valve body you are talking about? Is it to uncomfortable for partial throttle shifts or is it just neck snapping at WOT?
Thanks, David

I can't really comment on the quality of the product, or the shift patterns on it because I've never ridden in a Mach 1 with a Lentech VB.......................there are a few in here who have it, and will likely chime in soon.
The Factory Tech VB I had in my Lightning was great..........it was a neck snapper at WOT, especially from 1-2, but under normal driving was only slightly firmer than stock, but still noticeably quicker in shifting.
From what I've read on the Lentechs, they seem to be 2nd to none in quality, but like I said, I can't give MY opinion...........I can only go by what I've read in MM&FF, and similar magazines.
